With the 2018 Golden Globes this weekend, Gossip Cop is looking back at a rumor we busted about the 2017 awards show. One year ago, Star ran a fictitious cover story dramatically announcing a Golden Globes "showdown" for Angelina Jolie and Kate Hudson over Brad Pitt.

As we pointed out at the time, the front of the issue was deceptively designed to trick readers into thinking it had real information about the two women coming "face to face" at the awards show. The edition came out on a Wednesday, a few days before the ceremony, but the tabloid knew it would still be on newsstands through the Sunday event. Then when consumers would see it, people would be duped into thinking something went down at the Globes and this was an account of what happened.

It was actually a bait-and-switch. The article was really about the pair allegedly being "on the verge of their first-ever face-off" at the Globes. The catalyst for the purported dispute was Hudson's supposed relationship with Pitt and Jolie's fury over the alleged romance. "There's every chance the real drama won't be onstage," a so-called "insider" was quoted as saying, further claiming, "I've heard that Angie is out of her mind with jealousy, and I wouldn't be surprised if she actually seeks Kate out and angrily confronts her behind the scenes."

It was even claimed that speculation Hudson was pregnant with Pitt's baby was fueling Jolie's determination to have a confrontation. Of course, it was all bogus. As Gossip Cop said then, the two stars were not going to have a "showdown" at the Golden Globes. And they never did. In fact, neither even attended the awards show.

But there were more falsehoods in play than just that. We rightly reported that Hudson wasn't actually dating Pitt, let alone carrying his child. The actress herself even ripped the phony rumors months later. It was all a made-up narrative entirely fabricated by Star.

Now for this year's Golden Globes, Jolie will actually attend since her film, First They Killed My Father, is nominated for Best Foreign Language Film, and she's also set to present. Gossip Cop will be on the look-out for any outlets using the event to peddle untrue claims and correct them as necessary. One thing's for sure: Jolie won't be having a "showdown" with Hudson.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
