One of this week's tabloids claims Angelina Jolie believes Charlize Theron is dating Brad Pitt to get "revenge" on her. The story is wrong on every level. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
The Globe is capitalizing on the false romance rumors surrounding Pitt and Theron, who aren't a couple, by alleging that the actor's estranged wife is in a "fury" over their (nonexistent) relationship. Without any proof to back up its claim, the magazine says Theron and Jolie have been locked in a "vicious feud" for years because they've been supposedly battling over the same roles throughout their careers. Again, there's nothing to indicate this is accurate.
Still, the magazine quotes a supposed source as saying, "Angie was telling pals she was convinced Charlize was going after Brad just to get even with her. Looks like that was true." The alleged insider further contends Theron is "relishing every instant of Angie's agony."
The tabloid's story is predicated on the false idea that Pitt and Theron are dating, but the actor's rep has told Gossip Cop on the record he's not in a romance with the South African actress and never has been. The two movie stars shot an ad for Breitling watches last year, but Pitt's spokesperson assured us he "hasn't seen [Theron] in months." Theron isn't getting "revenge" on Jolie by hooking up with Pitt since the entire scenario is imaginary.
Last week, the Globe's sister publication, Star, made up a story about Jolie hiring private investigators to spy on Pitt and Theron. A source close to the actress told us on background the story was absurd. Jolie didn't enlist private detectives to track two people who aren't dating. Shortly before that, the magazine's other sister outlet, RadarOnline, falsely claimed Pitt was hiding his romance with Theron from Jolie.
Gossip Cop also recently debunked a bogus story about Jolie warning Theron to stay away from Pitt and their kids. This ongoing narrative has more in common with a fictional soap opera than anything resembling journalism. The romance rumors surrounding Pitt and Theron were started by an an anonymous and untraceable "source," while Pitt rep, speaking on his behalf, has confirmed that he's never dated the actress. E! News, for example, also confirmed Pitt and Theron "aren't dating and never were," and this was backed up by similarly respected celebrity news outlets like People magazine and "Entertainment Tonight."
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
