A report claiming Angelina Jolie is "embracing celibacy" is nothing but fake news. Gossip Cop can reveal not only that this story was made up, but also explain just why it was fabricated.
"Angelina Jolie 'Embracing Celibacy' After Brad Pitt Split: Why She's Choosing Not To Have Sex," HollywoodLife is blaring in a headline on Thursday evening. It's no surprise to see a "Brangelina" article from the webloid, as the site seemingly makes up stories about the former couple every week just for the sake of traffic. And this time around, a rather provocative topic was chosen, likely to increase the likelihood readers will click on the story.
In the piece, it's alleged that Jolie "may be single, but that doesn't mean she's ready to mingle." The outlet maintains it "EXCLUSIVELY learned" she's "still in no rush to find Mr. Right" even though she and Pitt "called it quits months ago." To back up these assertions, a so-called "source close to the By The Sea actress" is quoted as saying, "Angelina's mind is so not on romance or sex these days, she's totally celibate and she's embracing it. She's been reading a lot about how to transform sexual energy into creative power and she's pretty fascinated by it."
Gossip Cop is going to be blunt: No one, we repeat, no one close to Jolie is talking to the gossip media about her "sexual energy" and whether she's currently doing the deed or not. But the online publication's supposed snitch goes on to claim, "One of the gurus that she's following preaches about the distractions of sex so it's not like she's getting these ideas out of nowhere. Plus the fact is she really doesn't identify with her own sexuality anymore." Again, we must stress: No one in Jolie's circle is discussing her sexuality identity and whether sex is a "distraction" with gossip outlets.
But even if the actress did want some kind of message out there about her dating life, HollywoodLies would most certainly not be her venue of choice. Remember, this is the same webloid that in April speculated Jolie bought the Cecil B. DeMille estate because she was "prepping for [a] wedding" to a "British businessman." When the site now claims Jolie isn't "ready to mingle" and is "in no rush to find Mr. Right," it's hoping readers have forgotten all of its previous stories that falsely linked her to an unnamed boyfriend. Of course, if HollywoodLies was really in-the-know, it wouldn't have published those untrue tales in the first place and completely contradict itself now.
There's two other noteworthy aspects to this fictional celibacy story. One, it ends with HollywoodLies asking its readers, "Do you commend Angelina's choice?" That implies that if Jolie were to be having sex (and the site really doesn't know that she isn't), she should be shamed. Why shouldn't that "choice" be commended as well? Two, the outlet's decision to focus on this very personal topic is actually part of a pattern. This summer, the fabrication factory also peddled a made-up story about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West having the "best sex of their lives," and crafted pieces about the sex lives of Gwen Stefani, Kourtney Kardashian and others as well. The reason why is simple: Sex sells.
HollywoodLies writes about all of these stars incessantly, but it's always more tempting to click on a story that's related to sex. The bad blog is trying tantalize readers, but the site is nothing but a tease. No real sources are talking to the webloid about the sex lives of A-list celebrities, and this "exclusive" about Jolie is just salacious fake news.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
