Angelina Jolie had never hoped to repair her marriage with Brad Pitt, but exactly one year ago today, a tabloid came up with that premise. Gossip Cop debunked the story this time last year. It remains untrue.
On October 25, 2018, Gossip Cop busted OK! for falsely claiming Jolie was “tortured by regret” over leaving Pitt and believed she made a mistake calling off their marriage. An alleged insider told the outlet that she wanted Pitt back after seeing him getting sober and going to therapy, while her own health was suffering as a result of the breakup.
“When Angie first ended things, a part of her felt like maybe she could do better than Brad,” said the outlet’s supposed source, adding that Jolie was willing to do anything she could “to fix this mess and make things right between them again.”
As Gossip Cop noted this time last year, the premise made very little sense. For starters, Jolie and Pitt were engaged in a nasty custody battle at the time the article was published. Just a few months prior, in fact, a judge warned the actress that she needed to let their kids spend more time with their dad or risk losing primary custody. The estranged spouses have since reached some sort of custody arrangement, but the details haven’t been locked down and their divorce has yet to be finalized.
The events that have transpired during Jolie and Pitt’s divorce contradict the idea that she’s ever wanted to reconcile. There would never have been such a major legal battle between the exes if the actress was at any point trying to “fix” their marriage. Although things have reportedly gotten a bit more civil between Pitt and Jolie over the past year, they’re still not exactly cordial and a reconciliation is an absurd concept.
Earlier this month, Jolie spoked to the French magazine Madame Figaro about how she’s really felt amid her divorce. The actress explained that she went through a process of “renewal” following her split and had to learn how to “rediscover joy.” Jolie further noted that she’s still in a period of “transition.” Although the actress also admitted her divorce was “complicated” and “deeply sad,” at no point in the interview did she even suggest the option of reconciling.
It should be mentioned, it didn’t take long for OK! to drop this storyline. By December 2018, the outlet had wrongly reported Jolie was taking her kids to France for the holidays, leaving Pitt all alone on Christmas. That article wasn’t true either, but if the actress was so desperate to reconcile with her estranged husband, why would she flee the country with their kids? The reason these two reports were so contradictory is because they were totally fabricated.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
