Is Angelina Jolie in a "rage" that Brad Pitt has been dating and the first to start a "new relationship"? That was the premise of a couple of inaccurate reports from one year ago today. At the time, Gossip Cop debunked the claim, and 12 months later it's still completely untrue.
On April 19, 2018, HollywoodLife picked up a story from Star that maintained Jolie went into a "rage" after hearing her estranged husband was already dating. The two outlets asserted a highly "competitive" and "jealous" Jolie wanted to be in a "new relationship" first, and was angered and embarrassed Pitt ended up in one before her. Both the tabloid and the blog based their articles on the belief that Pitt was involved with Neri Oxman.
The main problem with those stories, and it's even clearer 365 days later, is that Pitt was not in a romantic relationship with Oxman. Not only did a rep for Pitt deny to Gossip Cop the two were involved, but the MIT professor even told the New York Times several months later that talk of her having ever dated the Once Up A Time In Hollywood actor was entirely false. As Gossip Cop pointed out a year ago, it would impossible for Jolie to be in a "rage" about Pitt being in a nonexistent romance.
Nor was there ever a race to find love first. As reported some time ago, and mentioned again more recently, Pitt has been casually dating for some time since his split from Jolie. She, however, has had no interest in dating. Jolie's camp has reiterated on several occasions that her focus has been solely on her six kids and career. One Jolie confidante further told Gossip Cop on background last year that the outlet's contentions were simply "ridiculous."
In the intervening months since that provably wrong article, Star hasn't become any more trustworthy with its stories about the now officially single actors. For instance, Gossip Cop busted the same magazine when it absurdly declared on its cover that Pitt was having a baby with Jenner Aniston after rekindling a romance with his ex-wife. And we also shot down another front page report that untruthfully stated Jolie was going to steal David Beckham from his wife Victoria.
Nor has HollywoodLies shown itself to be a reliable source of information about the two, particularly when it comes to dating. Interestingly, even though HollywoodLies' whole tale was about the Oscar-winner being upset that Pitt was the first to start a relationship, just three weeks earlier the often discredited site insisted, albeit incorrectly, that Jolie was dating a real estate agent. And as Gossip Cop has documented, the blog also published a slew of made-up articles about Jolie having a secret romance with a "mystery man." Those claims were also lies.
As we've explained before, Gossip Cop looks back at articles from the year before to show readers how claims from other outlets have held up over time. It was immediately apparent that the stories asserting Jolie had a "meltdown" over the rumors about Pitt dating Oxman were works of fiction. Now a year later, there's no doubt whatsoever that the magazine's and HollywoodLife's reports were total falsehoods. As Gossip Cop likes to say, time is not the friend of places that fabricate because the truth will always emerge.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
