A blog is pretending to know Angelina Jolie's reaction to seeing a photo of Brad Pitt and Lena Dunham hugging at the actress's 33rd birthday party last week. The story is fabricated. Gossip Cop can clear up the situation.
Last weekend, Dunham shared an Instagram photo of Pitt wrapping his arm around her while posing for a picture at her birthday party. The pair struck up a friendship while working together on Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. HollywoodLife, which frequently pretends to have "exclusive" scoops about Pitt and Jolie's divorce, is now purporting to know how the actress feels about seeing her estranged husband cozying up to another actress.
According to the website, Jolie is aware that Pitt and Dunham are just pals, but was still bothered by the photo because she's "not ready to think about her ex with another woman, even if that woman is just his friend." A seemingly phony source tells the outlet that Jolie "doesn't want to think about Brad dating" and would "rather not know what her ex is up to when it comes to his love life." It's unclear what any of this has to do with Pitt attending Dunham's birthday party, considering the two aren't a couple.
Here's what's really happening. After the photo of Pitt and Dunham started making the rounds, HollywoodLife decided to jump on the bandwagon by pretending to have an "exclusive" take on the situation. Only, Jolie's camp has told us countless times that no one in the actress's inner circle speaks to the blog. The website has zero insight into the actress's thoughts on the matter. The website's story doesn't make much sense either. Pitt and Dunham posed for a friendly and innocuous photo at her birthday party. Why exactly would this lead to Jolie feeling anxiety about her estranged husband's dating life?
It's worth noting, Gossip Cop called out the blog for trying a similar tactic with another one of the actor's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood co-stars. After set photos of Pitt hugging co-star Margaret Qualley emerged last year, the site claimed Jolie was "very suspicious and upset" about the interaction. Shortly after that, the outlet made up a story claiming Jolie was "determined to find out the truth" about Pitt dating other women. This latest narrative, which says the actress "doesn't want to think about" her estranged husband's love life, is completely contradictory.
HollywoodLife is also the same blog that pretended to know Jolie's reaction to Pitt attending Jennifer Aniston's 50th birthday party in February. The site also purported to know Jolie's feelings on the rumors Pitt was dating Charlize Theron. There's a pattern here. Immediately following a news story involving Pitt and another woman, the unreliable blog weighs in with Jolie's made-up reaction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
