A tabloid claims the reason Angelina Jolie is supposedly "dragging out" her divorce from Brad Pitt is that she's trying to win him back. The story is entirely untrue. Gossip Cop can correct it.
It's been more than two and a half years since the estranged spouses split, but they've yet to finalize their divorce. The reason for the holdup, according to the Sun, is that the actress doesn't actually want to get divorced. A supposed source tells the tabloid that Jolie has even "made it clear to Brad that she wants to be back in a relationship with him," but he consistently turns her down.
"That's why she is making it so difficult for Brad with every detail of their divorce," adds the alleged insider, who further contends that Jolie wants to keep negotiations going because she "doesn't seem capable of moving on." The questionable tipster goes on to say the actress "is making it horrendous for him" when it comes to divorce negotiations. The outlet's premise is fairly flawed. Jolie is making Pitt's life "horrendous" so he'll take her back? That's not a tactic that makes a whole lot of sense.
Meanwhile, dozens of outlets reported last month that Pitt and Jolie were working out a deal to become legally single before finalizing other details of their divorce. The estranged spouses are pushing for a "bifurcated judgment" that would end their status as a married couple in advance of hashing out other particulars such as a custody agreement and division of assets. Simply put, both Pitt and Jolie are eager to be single again. That's the one aspect of the divorce the actress clearly isn't "dragging out."
The main sticking point in Pitt and Jolie's divorce has been the custody of their six kids. Financial support is a secondary detail they've had difficulty ironing out. Getting back together has never been on the table, and the actress isn't waging a battle with her estranged husband because she believes that will somehow inspire him to repair their marriage. A source close to the actress confirms the tabloid's report is totally false.
It's worth noting, Jolie was the one who filed for divorce and there's never been any indication she's had second thoughts about doing so. Gossip Cop previously debunked a similar story claiming Jolie rejected Pitt's $100 million offer to settle their divorce because she wanted to reconcile. That never happened. This latest take on the subject is no more accurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
