One of this week’s tabloids claims Angelina Jolie is going “broke” amid her divorce from Brad Pitt. The story isn’t at all accurate. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

According to NW, the actress is struggling to support her children as the legal fees from her divorce battle take a toll on her bank account. “Ange is strapped for cash and finding it hard to make ends meet,” says the unreliable outlet. It was recently announced that the release date of Jolie’s Disney sequel, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, had been moved up from May 2020 to October 18 of this year. The outlet contends that the actress demanded the change so she could collect her backend pay.

“Ange made a strong push to get this movie done way ahead of schedule, and she knows that she stands to make a killing at the box office,” a supposed source tells the tabloid. “This is all about the money for Ange, because she needs to get the last installment check from the film now that Brad’s handouts have dried up.”

However, some reputable Hollywood trade publications have provided the real reason behind the release date change of Jolie’s upcoming sequel. Deadline noted that the pre-Halloween frame has become a lucrative date thanks to the massive opening weekend of last year’s Halloween remake. Meanwhile, Variety explained that had the Disney movie opened on its original date in May, it would have been competing with the second weekends of Fast & Furious 9 and The Spongebob Movie. The studio ultimately decided that October 18 was a more desirable release date, and the change has nothing to do with Jolie’s divorce.

It should also be mentioned, Jolie ranked at number two on Forbes’ list of the highest-paid actresses of 2018 thanks to her upfront fee of $28 million for the Maleficent sequel. Although the actress’s divorce has certainly been costly, the idea that she’s going “broke” simply isn’t true. Gossip Cop also checked in with a source close to Jolie, who confirms that the magazine’s story is false.

Additionally, Gossip Cop frequently catches NW making up phony narratives about the actress. When the false rumors about Pitt dating Charlize Theron emerged earlier this year, the tabloid claimed Jolie was pursuing Theron’s ex-boyfriend Sean Penn to get “revenge.” And last month, when false rumors began spreading about Pitt and Jennifer Aniston getting back together, the magazine wrongly reported that Jolie was “hooking up” with Justin Theroux for “revenge.” Neither premise was remotely realistic. This latest one is more fiction.
