One year ago today, Gossip Cop debunked a story claiming Angelina Jolie was having trouble focusing on work amid her divorce from Brad Pitt. In the 365 days since we debunked the report, the actress has been steadily working and has a number of projects in development. As time has proven, the premise was completely made-up.
On June 18, 2018, RadarOnline wrongly reported that Jolie was "melting down" over the stress of her divorce and custody negotiations with her estranged husband. The article was published shortly after a judge ruled that the actress needed to grant Pitt more visitation with their six kids or risk losing physical custody of them. As a result, the actor was able to visit his kids in London, where they were temporarily based while Jolie was shooting Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
An alleged insider told the outlet that the actress was handling the situation poorly, including "skipping meals and losing a lot of sleep." The supposed source further contended that the actress wasn't able to concentrate on her Disney sequel, adding, "The movie is a hugely important project for her but she's finding it hard to focus."
In reality, the actress was doing just fine and even found time to concentrate on humanitarian efforts during breaks from filming. As Gossip Cop noted this time last year, Jolie visited Iraq as a special envoy to the United Nations Refugee Agency. Her UN mission took place during her weekend off from shooting the Maleficent sequel.
Around the same time, People magazine reported that Jolie was "doing great and focusing on her work," despite the drama surrounding her and Pitt. The reliable outlet even made a point of noting that the actress teaches her children "to focus on others, not on their own troubles." An individual in the actress's camp also assured us the blog's report was fabricated.
As opposed to having trouble focusing on work, Jolie's acting career is the busiest it's been in years. Immediately after wrapping production on Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, the actress starting shooting the fantasy drama Come Away. She's currently in New Mexico shooting the wilderness thriller Those Who Wish Me Dead. Once shooting on that film concludes, Jolie will start working on Marvel's The Eternals.
Meanwhile, "Entertainment Tonight" reported in April that Jolie and Pitt's relationship is "the best it's been since their split." The estranged spouses, who became legally single in April, are remaining cordial as they continue finalizing their divorce. In the year since we debunked RadarOnline's phony article, it's clear the actress hasn't had any issues doing her job. In fact, Jolie's career is thriving.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
