A tabloid claims Angelina Jolie isn't letting Brad Pitt see their kids because she's furious about him supposedly "dating" Alia Shawkat. As Gossip Cop has already made clear, however, there's no romance between Pitt and the Arrested Development star. Nothing about the magazine's ludicrous story is true.
Last week, several outlets incorrectly speculated that Pitt and Shawkat are quietly dating because they've attended several of the same events in recent months. The actor's spokesperson exclusively told Gossip Cop the two are "just friends" and there's no romance between them. Several reliable publications, including E! News, People magazine and Entertainment Tonight, confirmed this as well.
NW either hasn't gotten the memo or just decided to ignore it. Not only is the magazine running with the fictional idea that Pitt and Shawkat are a couple, but it's throwing his ex into the mix to stir up fake drama. "As soon as she heard there was another woman in Brad's life, Angelina immediately withheld access to their kids," an alleged insider tells the outlet. "She's meant to send them over to his place every few days, but instead she hit the roof over the fact that he's been dating under her nose and refused to hand them over."
The bogus story gets more intense from there. The supposed source says Jolie "even threatened to leave the country" with their kids, adding, "Apparently her argument was that Brad hadn't stuck to their handshake agreement by telling her if he had a girlfriend, which left her free and clear to violate it at her end by taking the kids overseas without his permission."
Gossip Cop needs to pause her to point out how inane that section of the story is. For starters, a judge declared Pitt and Jolie legally single back in April. Both parties wanted their marriage status dissolved as they continue resolving other issues. If the actress were so concerned about the prospect of Pitt dating, she wouldn't push for them to be officially single in the eyes of the law. Meanwhile, the idea that fleeing the country with her kids amid custody negotiations is equal to him having a girlfriend is just absurd.
The alleged tipster goes on to say that Jolie headed with the kids "to a private airport before Brad got a police friend to intervene at the eleventh hour." The seemingly imaginary source adds that Pitt had his cop buddy "call Angelina and warn her that taking their kids without Brad's permission would be a huge mistake - and in the eyes of the law, leaving the country without their father's say could be seen as kidnapping. Thankfully, they talked sense into her and she reluctantly went back to negotiating with Brad through their lawyers."
Every aspect of the magazine's story is fabricated. The wild scenario, including Jolie's attempted escape plan and a police intervention, stems from a nonexistent romance between Pitt and Shawkat. NW's entire report is negated by the fact that the movie star isn't dating the actress. Still, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to the situation, who confirms the tabloid's article is both ridiculous and untrue.
Additionally, the outlet has been known to come up with phony stories about Pitt's love life. Back in August, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for falsely claiming Pitt was going on "secret dates" across Europe with Margot Robbie, who's happily married. This also isn't the first time the tabloid has claimed Jolie was upset about an imaginary romance her estranged husband wasn't actually having. In February, we called out the publication for insisting Jolie was having a "breakdown" over Pitt dating Charlize Theron - which he wasn't.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
