Is Angelina Jolie begging her six kids to choose her over Brad Pitt amid their custody battle? That's the claim in one of this week's tabloids. Gossip Cop can debunk the bogus story.
According to In Touch, the actress has a new plan to ensure that her estranged husband doesn't get joint custody of their children, and it involves turning the kids against him. An alleged insider tells the magazine, "She's already got the oldest boys [Maddox, 17, and Pax, 14] in her corner. Now she's trying to get the four youngest [Zahara, 13, Shiloh, 12, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 10] on her side." The questionable source adds, "She wants all the kids to tell the judge they want to live with her. She's begging them, 'Choose me!'"
The supposed insider goes on to say that Jolie is catering to her kids in an effort to win them over. "If they ask to go shopping, they go shopping," says the suspicious tipster. "If they want to go hiking, they go hiking. She's trying her hardest to spoil them." The seemingly phony source concludes, "She'll resort to any dirty trick to make sure she gets custody."
Gossip Cop, however, checked in with a source close to the situation, who tells us on background there's "no truth" to the story. People, a much more reliable celebrity news outlet than In Touch, similarly reported last month that Jolie "remains focused on healing her family." The publication added, "She continues to support the reconciliation of the children with Brad."
Also last month, E! News said, "In terms of the kids' relationship with Brad, Angelina definitely remains committed to helping the kids heal with their father." It's true that Pitt and Jolie's custody battle has been contentious and there are a lot of disagreements involved, but the actress isn't manipulating her children to turn against their dad. E! also noted that Jolie is "focused on the kids and working to do what's best for them." That doesn't involve brainwashing them to choose sides.
Meanwhile, In Touch is hardly trustworthy when it comes to the actress's personal life. Last month, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for falsely claiming that Jolie was marrying an "English billionaire." This latest article makes no mention of what happened to her so-called British boyfriend. Additionally, the magazine's narrative isn't original. Gossip Cop called out Woman's Day last month for making up a similar story about Jolie "spoiling" her kids to win them over. The premise remains untrue.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
