Is Angelina Jolie fleeing to France with her six kids amid her custody battle with Brad Pitt? That’s the ridiculous claim in one of this week’s tabloids. Gossip Cop can debunk it.
The ex-couple’s children have been living with their mom in Los Angeles, but an alleged insider tells the National Enquirer that the actress plans to leave the U.S. because she “wants to make it as hard as possible for Brad to see their children.” The questionable source adds, “Brad was completely blindsided. This will take their custody negotiations to a whole new level of conflict.”
The “tipster” goes on to say that Jolie will move the kids to their French estate, Chateau Miraval, where they’ll live full-time. The supposed insider, however, also believes it could be a tactic to get a bigger divorce settlement from Pitt. “Permanently uprooting the kids to a geographically undesirable spot gives her leverage – with Angie pressuring Brad into offering her more money to maintain an L.A. residence,” adds the unreliable outlet. “It’s a nightmare for Brad – but that’s what Angie is counting on!”
The magazine’s premise is entirely false. For starters, a judge determined in June that Jolie needs to give Pitt more time with the kids as “not having a relationship with their father is harmful to them.” Court documents stated that if the actress doesn’t comply with the ruling, it could result in “the court ordering primary physical custody to [Pitt].” Jolie isn’t going to risk losing custody of her children by fleeing the country and defying a court order.
Additionally, it was reported this week that Pitt and Jolie are in the process of child custody evaluations in an effort to finalize their custody arrangement. An evaluator is preparing to interview the parents and children, as well as family caregivers and members of their extended family, to determine a custody plan. Once the evaluation is complete, the court will set a permanent custody order. It’s absurd to believe that Jolie plans to flee the country with her kids amid this process. Doing so, as noted above, would likely result in the actress losing custody of her kids.
Regardless, Gossip Cop checked in with a source close to Jolie, who tells us on the condition of anonymity that the tabloid’s story is both “crazy” and “not true.” Meanwhile, the Enquirer has been known to make up false claims about the custody battle between the estranged spouses. Last month, Gossip Cop busted the magazine for wrongly reporting that Pitt had won custody of the six kids. This latest take on the subject is also inaccurate.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
