Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt still aren't "consciously re-coupling," despite a report last year that falsely claimed they were reconciling. Gossip Cop rightly busted this story 12 months ago. In fact, things are even worse between the estranged spouses now than they were back then.
On September 3, 2017, we called out the Daily Mail for an article wrongly contending Jolie and Pitt were getting back together. It was alleged their purported reunion began with a face-to-fact meeting where they "collapsed into each other's arms" outside a friend's home, before having an "emotional heart-to-heart that put aside the months of acrimony and mud-slinging." The tale came from Ian Halperin, who has written much about the former couple over the years.
"There were a lot of tears. Nothing was left on the table. They had it out, right there," he told the paper, claiming, "In that moment they decided to make a fresh start. It was a 'come to Jesus meeting' that marked the beginning of a new phase in their relationship." Maintained the outlet, "Their conclusion was that, like a latter-day Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, they still loved each other and wanted to try again." The publication went on to insist, "They are, in fact, working to 'consciously re-couple' and have undergone intensive rehab and spiritual counselling sessions in an effort to start anew."
When Gossip Cop investigated this narrative a year ago, an impeccable insider swore that it was all a "complete and total fabrication." Said our confidante, "They do deal with each other amicably for the kids, but they are not getting back together." And time has proven that was the truth. Far from getting back together, Jolie and Pitt's divorce battle worsened significantly this summer. Indeed, not only was the main premise of this story wrong, but so were the specific claims within it, as recent events show.
For example, Halperin claimed of Pitt 365 days ago, "Brad already has unlimited access to the children." That wasn't true then, and still isn't now. The custody issues between Pitt and Jolie remain unresolved, with an interim agreement only allowing Pitt regular visitation with kids, as judge set forth back in June. He hasn't had "unlimited access" since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.
And contrary to Halperin's assertion last year that they had "pretty much divided their marital assets evenly and are now back to being independent of each other financially," the opposite is true. Pitt has given Jolie a loan he expects to be repaid, and she is demanding he pay more child support. Last month, the two sides engaged in a public war of words over money, custody and moving their divorce forward.
To recap, this time last year, the Daily Mail told readers Pitt and Jolie were "consciously re-coupling", with the actor getting "unlimited access" to their kids while keeping their finances separate. All of it couldn't have been further from the truth. One year later, they haven't gotten back together, Pitt is still fighting for access to the children, and their finances are very much entangled.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
