Angelina Jolie never had a baby with a "secret lover," despite a tabloid report from exactly one year ago today. At the time, Star maintained the actress was pregnant with an unnamed philanthropist's child. Gossip Cop was assured back then the story was "nonsense," and it's even clearer now how utterly bogus the boyfriend and baby claim were.

On July 16, 2017, Star reported that Jolie and a nondescript wealthy man had hired a surrogate to carry their baby. After noting how the actress fell for him in "early 2016," the tabloid quoted a supposed "insider" who asserted Jolie liked "the idea of becoming a mom again." But following her split from Brad Pitt, added the alleged source, "She didn't know if she'd ever find someone with whom she'd want to have another child. But Angie is serious about this guy."

Of course, as Gossip Cop pointed out a year ago, the publication couldn't furnish one detail about "this guy," with whom it swore up and down she was having a baby. Was her new boyfriend in his twenties, thirties, forties or older? How did they meet? Was he from the U.S., England or somewhere else? And did he have a name?

Those were hardly the only gaping errors in the article. The tabloid made clear Jolie began her relationship with the man "15 months ago," which would have been in April 2016. But Jolie and Pitt split five months later in September 2016. So, was she cheating on her husband?

Rather than address those gaffes and others, the outlet simply contended Jolie had an "intense and close connection" to "this man," who purportedly had a net worth of more than $1 billion. The publication never answered how he made his fortune or, as noted earlier, if he even had a name.

And while the magazine literally had no verifiable facts about "this guy" or "this man," as it vaguely referred to him throughout the article, its source somehow magically knew Jolie's daughter Shiloh was anxious "to help her mom out with the baby," and siblings Vivienne and Knox were also ready to "lend a hand." The tabloid further claimed that after Jolie shared her "baby plans" with her kids , they were "absolutely delighted."

On this day 12 months ago, a Jolie confidante, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Gossip Cop the tabloid's article was "nonsense." And it's no less "nonsense" now. The reason the publication didn't have any specifics about the alleged billionaire boyfriend was because "this guy" never existed. He was seemingly made up by Star or one of its untraceable sources. More significantly, Jolie did not have a baby with a secret philanthropist lover or anyone else via a surrogate or otherwise in the past year.

Oddly, even though the tabloid said she was having a child with the nameless lover, less than two months later it abandoned that narrative in favor of another tall tale about Jolie dating Johnny Depp. And then a little more than a week after that, Gossip Cop busted the same magazine when it falsely maintained Jolie was trying to get Pitt back. All of those stories were lies.

The reality is that over the past 365 days Jolie has not dated anyone nor has she had any interest in doing so since splitting from Pitt. As similarly reported by E!, Jolie's focus has been on her kids, not dating. Equally notable is that in 2015 Jolie talked about going into menopause after having surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes, and she's never mentioned having her eggs frozen to be used by a surrogate.

Our Verdict

Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
