Amy Schumer recently dropped out of starring in a live-action Barbie movie due to a scheduling conflict, but a new tabloid report claims the actress is lying about the reason for leaving the film. Gossip Cop, however, can set the record straight.

As Gossip Cop reported, Schumer received a ton of backlash on Twitter last year after it was announced she’d be playing the iconic doll on the big screen. Many users mocked the casting choice because the comedienne doesn’t physically resemble the classic Mattel toy, but the actress brushed off the online trolls. OK!, however, is now falsely claiming Schumer quit the movie over the negative response.

The outlet quotes a dubious insider as saying Sony Pictures was also “spooked by the furor” so the studio and actress mutually agreed to part ways. Gossip Cop, however, can shed some light on the situation. Sony needs to release Barbie no later than June 29, 2018 because Mattel already has merchandise in production to coincide with the film’s release date. But Schumer will be busy this summer with the promotional tour for her upcoming comedy, Snatched, as well as shooting the indie, She Came to Me, co-starring Steve Carell. Unfortunately, Sony can’t push back production on Barbie to accommodate Schumer’s schedule because it will negatively impact other partners on the film.

Additionally, Schumer wasn’t at all phased by the backlash. Back in December when she was still attached to star in the film, the actress responded to her detractors by thanking them “for making it so evident that I am a great choice.” She further noted how the “haters can scream as loud as they want,” but she’s “very honored” to put a new spin on “an important and evolving icon.”

Gossip Cop also checked in with a rep for Schumer, who exclusively assures us the tabloid’s story is “false.” Unfortunately, fans won’t get a chance to see the comedienne’s take on the character, but Twitter trolls aren’t the reason for it.
