America's Got Talent Results August 16 2017

“America’s Got Talent” had its first live results show of season 12 on Wednesday. Find out who made the semifinals and who was eliminated!

As Gossip Cop reported, “America’s Got Talent” was live on Tuesday for the first time in 2017. To kick off the season 12 quarterfinals, 12 acts from the Top 36 performed over the course of two hours. Among the standouts were 9-year-old singer Angelica Hale and 12-year-old ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer. Both were Golden Buzzer winners earlier in the season. Singer Yoli Mayor’s “Human” performance received mixed feedack, while “The Singing Trump,” a Donald Trump impersonator, elicited a few groans. The depressed singing clown known as Puddles Pity Party was even buzzed with the dreaded red “X” from Simon Cowell. But there was also multiple standing ovations throughout the night.

Regardless of the judges’ feedback, the semifinalists are mostly chosen by viewers. Votes cast after last night’s show determined the five acts automatically through to the next round and the four acts immediately cut. But for the remaining three acts who fell in the middle of the pack, the process was a bit more complicated. In order to move on, they had do be saved by either America or the judges. And only two of the acts would get redemption.

So, how did it all shake out? Well, as host Tyra Banks revealed, the five safe acts who are now the first semifinalists of season 12 are a capella group In The Stairwell, comedian Preacher Lawson, Hale, Farmer and rollerskating siblings Billy and Emily England. And the four acts who were axed are young dance duo Artyon & Paige, “The Singing Trump,” Puddles Pity Party and daredevil Bello Nock, who was back after the Judge Cuts as a Wild Card act. With those results, that left singer and Howie Mandel’s Golden Buzzer Christian Guardino, dance crew Just Jerk and Mayor in jeopardy.

Their first opportunity to stay in the competition was through the Dunkin’ Save. During the results show, viewers could vote for which of the three acts they wanted to save. And Guardino won, securing a spot in the upcoming semifinals. That left it up to the judges to decide which of the two remaining acts, Just Jerk or Mayor, would get to occupy the last available slot this week. The panelists had to cast votes one by one with majority rule. If they were split, the decision would be based on whichever act ranked higher according to the original viewer vote.

Heidi Klum cast the first ballot for Mayor. Mel B then voted for Just Jerk. Mayor burst into tears as Cowell also voted for her. That put the pressure on Mandel, who picked Just Jerk. With that tie, Banks revealed Mayor earned more votes from America and would be the act going through. Just Jerk was therefore eliminated.

Next week, the quarterfinals/semifinals process will repeat with 12 new quarterfinalists taking the stage, and then seven making it through as semifinalists. Gossip Cop will once again have the highlights and full results.
