Alien: Covenant scared up a box office win in its debut weekend. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 below.

Alien: Covenant is both a prequel and a sequel. How? Well, it takes place before the events of the iconic Alien, but after Prometheus. Prometheus was released in 2012 as the start of a prequel story, and now Alien: Covenant is continuing that tale. Another prequel/sequel is expected to follow, but plans have not been officially announced.

The future of the franchise is dependent upon, in part, the box office performance of Covenant. Right now, the movie had a $36 million opening. That was probably not quite as high as director Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox had hoped for, but it’s a respectable start.

That gross was enough to take first place and push two-time chart-topper Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 into the number two spot. In its third weekend, Guardians had ticket sales of $35 million. There’s a sizable gap, however, between those films and the rest of this week’s rankings.

The adaptation of the YA book Everything, Everything snagged the third position, but with a debut of only $12 million. Amy Schumer and Goldie Hawn’s Snatched nabbed fourth place with $7.6 million. The newest installment in the Diary Of A Wimpy Kid franchise, The Long Haul, opened in fifth with $7.2 million.

Rounding out the Top 10 were King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword in sixth with $6.9 million, while Fate Of The Furious came in seventh, thanks to another $3.2 million. The Boss Baby secured eighth with $2.8 million, and Beauty And The Beast took ninth with $2.4 million. Just making it into the Top 10 in the last spot was How To Be A Latin Lover. It earned $2.2 million.
