A tabloid report claiming that Alex Rodriguez's ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis is "furious" over his so-called "engagement" to Jennifer Lopez is completely untrue. The former MLB player and singer aren't engaged, so his ex has no reason to be "furious." Gossip Cop can clear up this situation.
According to the National Enquirer, Rodriguez presented his girlfriend a $250,000 engagement ring during a dinner in the Hamptons earlier this month, and they're now in the process of planning a "star-studded engagement party in Manhattan and a Miami ceremony as early as September." An alleged "insider" then tells the magazine that Scurtis "freaked out after hearing Alex popped the question" and she's planning revenge.
"She wants to bury him in any way she can and remind the world of what he's really like," adds the questionable source. "J.Lo has seriously helped to boost his reputation in a positive way. But now Cynthia is going to try and tear him down." But there's one major issue with the tabloid's account of events: Rodriguez and Lopez aren't engaged.
During an interview on KTU's "Cubby and Carolina in the Morning" on Tuesday, Lopez shot down rumors about her boyfriend having popped the question. "I'm not engaged. I'm not engaged. No, no," the singer definitively stated. When the hosts jokingly asked if she "got married secretly in Vegas," Lopez exclaimed, "No!"
Scurtis has never publicly commented on her ex-husband's romance with Lopez, but regardless of how she may feel about the two dating, she's obviously not upset about a nonexistent engagement. Lopez and Rodriguez's relationship appears to be going quite strong, so it's certainly possible they'll get engaged at some point in the near future. The tabloid is clearly eager to drag Scurtis into this narrative, but it could have at least waited until an engagement actually happens.
It's also worth noting, the Enquirer can't keep its stories straight when it comes to the status of the famous couple's relationship. Just three months ago, Gossip Cop busted the tabloid for making up a story about Rodriguez getting "cold feet" over marrying Lopez. This latest article fails to mention how the former MLB star went from refusing to get married to buying a ring in just a short few months.
Conclusion: The untrustworthy tabloid has concocted an article about Rodriguez's ex-wife being "furious" over his "engagement" to Lopez. Only, the singer herself plainly stated on Tuesday that she's "not engaged." It's clear the magazine's report is a work of fiction.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is totally false.
