Following the Blind Auditions, Battles, Knockouts and Playoffs, there’s 12 artists left in the NBC music competition with three singers on each of the four teams. The coaches continue mentoring, but they no longer have any decision power over who moves on going forward. The contestants not only have to sing live, but earn America’s votes to stick around week to week. At 16, Agen, who covered “Angel From Montgomery” for the Playoffs, is already one to watch for her stunning voice.

Now for her first live performance of the series, coach Adam Levine assigned the teen Sara Bareilles’ “She Used To Be Mine,” which was inspired by the film Waitress, which the singer adapted for Broadway. In rehearsal, Levine pointed out that Agen wants to be a singer-songwriter, just like Bareilles, and he hoped to highlight how there’s “so much” to her voice. The high schooler said she was dedicating the performance to her mom.

Agen had tears in her eyes as she sang, and appeared to be so overcome as she connected to the lyrics that she was actually shaking with emotion. Levine gave a standing ovation, but it was her former coach Miley Cyrus who spoke first. “I know that you’re gonna be here til the very end,” the pop star told her, adding, “You’re so focused and confident. So amazing to see at your age.”

Levine called Agen’s voice “incredible.” He went on to say she can be “an inspiration to so many young women. You’re just the pillar of class and dignity and soulfulness… I think you are one of the most special singers, not only in this competition but in this world.” Watch the video below!
