Adam Driver‘s intensity is well-documented. The former marine used to jog from his apartment in Queens across Manhattan to Juilliard every morning, for example. At night, he never went out, spending his time watching old movies or reading. For Driver, it was an extreme dedication to his craft. For his fellow students, he may have seemed a bit odd, but he was still an actor they grew to greatly respect.
One of Driver’s classmates at Juilliard was Scott Aiello, a character actor most known for his role as Tommy Barkow on Showtime’s hit Billions. In an episode of the podcast The Film Reroll, Aiello provided some insight into Driver’s impressive dedication to his fitness. He included one odd, yet somehow imposing, detail: Driver would go through a whole rotisserie chicken while sitting in class. “He would walk around school with an entire chicken in one hand and a jug of water in the other,” Aiello said.
After multiple Emmy nominations for his role as Adam on Girls, Driver was cast as the ultimate bad guy, Kylo Ren, in The Force Awakens. Reviews by hardcore Star Wars fans were mixed, with many attacking the actor and the character for being “weak” and “whiny.” Aiello, however, pushed back on that idea. “People were all commenting on websites, like, ‘He’s such a scrawny little — how could that guy be a Jedi? He’s so wimpy!'” he said. “He is so [expletive] ripped, you guys have no idea.”
Of course, Driver famously showed off his cut physique in The Last Jedi, quieting the critics. Driver’s dedication was something Aiello was already familiar with from their time in school. “Driver’s the only alpha I’ve ever met in my life,” he explained. “True alpha, where I’m like holy [expletive]. This guy is going to do whatever he wants to do in his life, there’s no doubt.” So while some of his classmates may have found Driver’s dietary choices a bit odd, Aiello saw him for what he was: an ultra-dedicated alpha male bound for success. The ultimate expression was that chicken. “He would carry his roaster chicken with him and go to all his classes and consume chicken,” Aiello said.
Driver obviously didn’t care how it looked. He was a former marine in class at the most prestigious art school in the country eating whole chickens like he was the boss of the room. Things are different today, as he commands respect from everyone in both Hollywood and Broadway. He’s been nominated for Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, Golden Globes and just about every other major (and minor) award an actor could want. While he hasn’t won a big one yet, it’s just a matter of time. He just received his second Golden Globe nomination for Marriage Story.
Driver’s even been able to keep his private life under wraps, despite his ascent to stardom. He’s been married for six years, living quietly in Brooklyn. He even managed to keep the birth of his first child a secret for two years. Gossip Cop has amazingly never had to debunk a phony story about him. That alone is as alpha as it gets in the tabloid media for a star of his stature.
Gossip Cop has determined this story is accurate to the best of our ability.
