Zayn Malik Too Sick To Perform, Leaves One Direction Concert Early
Zayn Malik was forced to leave Friday’s One Direction concert in Australia early when he became too sick to perform. The boy band’s “On The Road Again” show in Patersons Stadium in Perth was nearing its end when Niall Horan announced Malik wouldn’t be on stage for the final songs.
The nature of Malik’s illness has not been disclosed, but fans have already made “#GetWellSoonZayn” the top trending topic on Twitter in both the United States and worldwide. Directioners are expressing amazement that Malik lasted as long as he did, performing more than a dozen tracks despite feeling unwell, and wishing him a speedy recovery. “It’s not a 1D song without your high note Zayn so get well soon pls,” wrote one fan page. Someone else declared, “WHEN ZAYN IS SICK EVERYONE IS SICK.”
The “On The Road Again” tour began in Australia earlier this month, with Perth being the seventh concert so far. One Direction is next set to perform in Japan on Tuesday, leading one Directioner to tweet, “The boys have 3 days off that’s good so @zaynmalik can get some rest my poor baby.” Another fan remarked, “This is like Orlando again. I can’t. I just wanna see my baby marshmallow happy and onstage again.”
The tweeter, of course, was referring to Malik’s much-discussed absence from One Direction’s “Today Show” concert in Orlando last November. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, Malik was too ill to travel for the show, and Matt Lauer put the group on the spot on live television, asking about rumors of “substance abuse.” Liam Payne said Malik was just suffering from a “stomach bug,” and the star himself later hit back at Lauer for the questioning, saying he was “angry and upset” by the interview.
Video of Horan’s announcement about Malik at Friday’s concert has not yet emerged, but Gossip Cop will post when it becomes available. Horan, Payne, and Harry Styles took on Malik’s parts for the show’s final songs. Gossip Cop will have updates.
