Zayn Malik Signs With New Manager After Simon Cowell Drops Him From Record Label
Zayn Malik has signed with a new manager after being dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label Syco, Gossip Cop confirms. We’re told Malik, who left One Direction in March, is now a client of the London-based management agency First Turn Artists, which also manages Iggy Azalea, Rita Ora, and Ellie Goulding. A rep for Syco declined to comment.
The moves comes after Cowell dumped Malik from his label out of loyalty to One Direction and a desire to remove all potential conflicts of interest between the remaining band members and Malik as a solo artist. While no longer with Syco, Malik’s first solo effort will likely still be on another Sony-based label.
Last week, Gossip Cop busted a false rumor that wrongly claimed Malik was returning to One Direction. Thousands of people trended a hashtag that alleged Malik would reunite with One Direction at the group’s Sunday concert in Minneapolis. Of course, the show came and went, and Malik never appeared, just like Gossip Cop exclusively reported he wouldn’t.
That said, Malik is now on better terms with his former One Direction bandmates after cutting ties with producer Naughty Boy. As Gossip Cop reported, Malik and Payne exchanged sweet tweets last week on One Direction’s fifth anniversary. But while they may remain friends, it’s clear Syco and One Direction are moving forward on a separate path from Malik.
