Zac Efron In Talks For “Baywatch” Movie
Zac Efron is in talks to star in the upcoming Baywatch movie, Gossip Cop confirms.
As Gossip Cop reported, it was revealed last fall that Dwayne Johnson will lead a big-screen adaptation of the hit series, which starred David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson as lifeguards on a Los Angeles beach. Johnson promised at the time that the film would be “edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell.” Now specifical details are finally emerging.
Johnson, who is also producing, will star as a veteran lifeguard who always plays by the rules. He gets paired up with a younger guard, who would be played by Efron, who couldn’t care less about staying on the straight and narrow. Together they team up to protect their beach from getting taken over by an oil mogul.
Gossip Cop is told Efron is currently in negotiations for the co-starring role. The film would seek to combine comedic, dramatic, and action elements. The current timeline has production eyed for early 2016, with a 2017 release.
Johnson tweeted on Monday, “BIG NEWS: Welcoming my dude @ZacEfron to #BAYWATCH. Our movie will be big, fun and RATED R. Like me when I drink.” He later posted, “It’s BIG. Me and bud @ZacEfron been talkin’ bout this one for a long time. And someone get my baby oil. #RatedR.” Efron replied, “So stoked brother – baby oil for 2 plz.”
Efron’s casting was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The news comes just a few weeks before the star’s newest movie, We Are Your Friends, hits theaters on August 28. TELL US: What do you think of Efron starring in Baywatch?
