The X Factor Makes Shocking Cuts, Reveals Surprising Top 24 Contestants

“The X Factor” whittled down its contestants from 60 to 24 on Wednesday.

Many favorites made the cut — going on to another round of auditions at the judges’ homes — and several other favorites were cut.

Among those surprisingly getting the boot were “Hallelujah” crooner Jeffrey Gutt, obese pastor Freddie Combs and Gene Simmons‘ daughter Sophie Tweed-Simmons.

Other standouts, including country singer Willie Jones, Justin Bieber look-alike Reed Deming and 13-year-old Carly Rose Sonenclar were thrilled to advance.

Bullying victim Jillian Jensen, country singer Tate Stevens and the enthusiastic Jason Brock also moved forward.

In true “X Factor” fashion, a twist brought back several contestants moments after they were eliminated.

Those given a second chance were formed into groups under Simon Cowell‘s watch, giving them another opportunity in the competition but an added challenge as well.

The rest of the competitors were divided into other categories, with Britney Spears mentoring the “Teens,” Demi Lovato overseeing the “Young Adults” and L.A. Reid coaching the “Over 25s.”

Each judge will narrow down their group of six acts to just four for the live shows.

    Do you really think that the cuts were that surprising!? Gene Simmons daughter was average and probably only got past the first round or two because of who she was. Freddie Combs was a good story. but with an average voice. He also did not have the ‘X factor’.

    I’m hoping for Jennel to take it to the bank I love her, she is a spit fire! I think she is really good…as for Jillian she’s good too.

    I was really sad to see Gene Simmons’ daughter get cut, I loved her voice I thought it was really unique, I also loved her style. I was glad, however to see Willie Jones advance, he’s also very unique and he can sing! I can’t wait to see how well everyone works with their assigned mentors. I’m glad my DISH coworker suggested this show and I’ve been watching ever since. I like to record it on my Hopper with the Primeime Anytime feature because it allows me to record all prime time programming thaTt comes on the four major networks. It’s great not having to set up any individual timers.
