Wyclef Jean was pulled over and detained by Los Angeles police on Tuesday morning after being mistaken as the suspect in an armed robbery. Moments later, however, the real suspect was arrested just blocks away. Watch the video below.

The hip-hop artist posted a Twitter video on Tuesday in which he’s being handcuffed by authorities because he matched the description of a man who had reportedly robbed a couple at gunpoint on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. “LAPD another case of mistaken identity,” Jean captioned the footage. “Black man with red bandana robbed a gas station as I was in the studio working but im in handcuffs?”

The musician continued in a series of subsequent tweets, “I was asked by the police to Put my hands up. Then I was told do not move. I was instantly hand cuffed before being asked to identify myself. Nor was I told why I was being cuffed. In the process I said my name and told them they have wrong person.” He added, “They proceeded to ignore me and I was treated like a criminal until other police showed up and pointed out they had wrong person. I am sure no father wants his sons or daughters to see him in Handcuffs especially if he is innocent.”

Jean concluded, “As someone who has law enforcers in my family, I was appalled by this behavior of the LAPD.” The LAPD, however, later clarified in a statement on Twitter that it had no involvement in the incident, and it was the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that detained the rapper. Jean, who was detained for around 10 minutes, was released when the deputies were informed that the real suspect had been arrested nearby. Watch videos below of Jean’s detainment, and the arrest of the real suspect.
