20 Wrong Reports About Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt Divorce
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce has sparked nearly two dozen wrong reports since their split was announced just over a week ago. Here Gossip Cop rounds up 20 of the biggest busts related to the Brangelina breakup.
1. Brad Pitt did NOT have an “affair” with Marion Cotillard, despite New York Post report.
Just hours after the divorce news broke, the paper claimed Angelina Jolie had hired a private investigator, who confirmed Pitt and Cotillard hooked up while filming Allied. But the report seemed to be fueled by the months of unfounded tabloid rumors about the co-stars getting cozy. In actuality, Pitt and Cotillard maintained a friendly, professional dynamic during the production, and no cheating took place whatsoever.
2. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did NOT almost adopt seventh child to save their marriage, despite HollywoodLife report.
The webloid picked up an already debunked In Touch story that had falsely claimed in July that Pitt and Jolie were adopting an African child. At the time, Pitt’s rep exclusively told Gossip Cop that there was no adoption in the works. Now the bad blog brought the false allegation back up to tie it to the couple’s divorce. But Pitt and Jolie were never considering adopting in the first place, so it had nothing to do with the split.
3. Selena Gomez did NOT cause Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce, despite RadarOnline report.
The site regurgitated a January story from its sister publication, the National Enquirer, which had falsely claimed Jolie was upset about Pitt and Gomez hanging out at the Golden Globes. Gossip Cop called out the nonsense when it originally ran earlier this year. And now the webloid was off-base in speculating that Pitt and Gomez’s after-party chat contributed to his split from Jolie months later.
4. Brad Pitt was NOT “leaning on” George Clooney as he split from Angelina Jolie, despite HollywoodLife report.
In a desperate bid to look like it had insight on the separation, HollywoodLies made up a story about Clooney counseling Pitt and advising him to save the marriage. But at the time the story was published, Clooney didn’t even know about the divorce. The disreputable outlet went on to run a similarly fabricated tale about Gwen Stefani comforting Jolie. Both were works of fiction.
5. Angelina Jolie was NOT making “secret calls” to her “lesbian lover,” despite RadarOnline report.
The webloid insinuated Jolie was immediately moving on from the split with her former girlfriend, Jenny Shimizu. The outlet tried to make it seem like the two were having illicit conversations behind Pitt’s back. But the site eventually conceded that Jolie was simply calling Shimizu, as well as other friends, to inform them of the divorce. So there was nothing “secret,” and it had nothing to do with a current “lesbian lover.”
6. Angelina Jolie did NOT confront Marion Cotillard on the Allied set, despite The Sun report.
The British paper claimed Jolie was “aggressive” toward Cotillard earlier this year, and insisted on being on set to “keep watch” over her and Pitt. But, as stated above, nothing inappropriate ever took place between the co-stars. Jolie didn’t suspect otherwise, and had no reason to confront Cotillard.
7. Angelina Jolie did NOT “cheat on Brad Pitt with a woman,” despite MediaTakeOut report.
Picking up the RadarOnline story about Jolie contacting her “lesbian lover,” MediaFakeOut took things a giant step further by alleging she was having an affair and that’s why her marriage to Pitt was ending. MTO even called Shimizu Jolie’s “side chick.” But the site had no evidence whatsoever, and simply twisted the RadarOnline report about the two women talking.
8. Brad Pitt was NOT investigated by the LAPD for child abuse, despite TMZ report.
The generally reliable outlet mistakenly claimed that the Los Angeles Police Department was among the organizations looking into whether Pitt committed child abuse during a plane trip. But the LAPD wasn’t involved in the case at all. The Department of Child and Family Services has an ongoing inquiry, and the FBI is also looking into the situation, since it occurred during an international flight. Unless it’s determined Pitt committed an act in Los Angeles, the LAPD does not have jurisdiction.
9. Jennifer Aniston has NOT addressed Brad Pitt’s divorce, despite HollywoodLife report.
HollywoodLies dragged Aniston into Pitt’s split, purporting to know her thoughts on the separation and the child abuse claims. But the site, which has repeatedly demonstrated that it doesn’t have reliable Pitt OR Aniston sources, seemingly fabricated this tale, just like the prior ones. Aniston didn’t (and still hasn’t) commented on something that doesn’t concern her.
10. Brad Pitt’s fear of aging did NOT cause the plane fight, despite RadarOnline report.
In one of the most ridiculous stories to come out in the wake of the separation, the site absurdly claimed Pitt was “acting out” because he’s “terrified of aging.” A supposed “source” even said, “He hates the way that he looks right now and he is taking it out on everyone around him.” But it was utter nonsense. Pitt’s appearance did not drive his mid-air argument.
11. Brad Pitt did NOT pee on an airport tarmac after the fight, despite MyTalk 107.1 report.
The St. Paul radio station cited a witness who claimed that the argument spilled out onto the runway at the International Falls Airport in Minnesota, where Pitt “relieved himself” at one point. But there was no proof, such as a police report or airport paperwork, to back up the allegation. Nor has any video emerged of such an act. Gossip Cop was told the claim was “total and absolute BS.”
12. Johnny Depp is NOT consoling Angelina Jolie over the divorce, despite The Sun report.
The tabloid newspaper said Depp was supporting Jolie after she “stood by” him during his breakup with Amber Heard earlier this year. It was even alleged that she hired Laura Wasser as her divorce attorney based on Depp’s advice. But the actor has not gotten involved in Jolie’s split, and she hired the famed lawyer because she’s among the most popular legal representation for celebrities.
13. Brad Pitt was NOT going to rehab to win back Angelina Jolie, despite HollywoodLife report.
The fabrication factory’s latest “exclusive” alleged Pitt had offered to go to rehab and prove he can stay sober for 90 days so Jolie would reconsider the divorce. But the premise was total fiction, and the quotations apparently made up. In fact, Gossip Cop was told “no such discussions ever happened.”
14. Angelina Jolie is NOT “hooking up” with Johnny Depp, despite HollywoodLife report.
HollywoodLies was back at it with a story claiming friends expected The Tourist co-stars to start “hooking up.” Of course, the allegation was sparked by the incorrect Sun story that had said Jolie and Depp were bonding with each other after their respective splits. The site seemingly got the idea from that to manufacture a non-existent romance between Jolie and Depp. But nothing is brewing but the webloid’s own baseless sensationalism.
15. Brad Pitt is NOT reuniting with Jennifer Aniston, despite Celeb Dirty Laundry report.
This site, infamous for its wild speculation, asserted that the Brangelina breakup would give “Aniston back the husband she lost plus the kids she can’t seem to have on her own.” Alleging Aniston is having marital trouble with Justin Theroux, CDL wondered if it was “just a matter of time” before she and Pitt got back together. But there was nothing to back up the claims, and neither Pitt nor Aniston have any intention of resuming their long-ago relationship.
16. Justin Theroux did NOT get “revenge” on Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, despite RadarOnline report.
This sensational tale used an “Entertainment Tonight” interview with Theroux to say he “threw shade” at Pitt and Jolie on wife Aniston’s behalf. But the actor never commented on Pitt or Jolie. He was merely discussing the concept of perfect marriages, as it relates to his new film The Girl On The Train, and was asked how he and Aniston make it work. It had zero to do with dissing Pitt and Jolie’s failed union, and wasn’t a “Bangie burn.”
17. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston did NOT secretly reunite at hotel, despite National Enquirer report.
The supermarket tabloid claimed the exes met up in New York just weeks before Jolie filed for divorce. Naturally, it was said Pitt opened up about his marriage problems, and that Aniston was “secretly waiting for him to leave Angelina.” But it was complete fiction. A rep for Aniston told Gossip Cop, “No such meeting ever took place and the whole story is fabricated.”
18. Angelina Jolie did NOT find pictures of other women on Brad Pitt’s phone, despite OK! report.
The magazine said Jolie found proof of Pitt’s “dalliances” with “everyone from flight attendants to biker babes at a motorcycle convention to Hollywood ingenues like Selena Gomez” by looking through the photos on his cell phone. It was said a “blowout fight” followed, leading to the split. But as Gossip Cop has noted, it was the plane fight that precipitated Jolie’s decision to leave Pitt. We also learned that Pitt did not have any inappropriate pictures.
19. Brad Pitt did NOT beat Angelina Jolie and their kids, despite National Enquirer report.
On its cover, the publication doctored a photo of Jolie to make it look like her face was bruised and she was a “battered” wife. The accompanying story alleged Pitt would “beat” her and their six children, and Jolie was “living in fear.” But the article had no hard facts, aside from mentioning the plane incident. And beyond that, there’s been no indication whatsoever that Pitt was ever abusive to his wife or kids. In fact, one source close to the actor deemed the tabloid’s abuse lies “out of control.”
20. Brad Pitt did NOT vent to Marion Cotillard, despite Us Weekly report.
The gossip magazine claimed Pitt opened up to Cotillard about his problems with Jolie during the filming of Allied, and found support from his co-star. The tabloid further claimed Jolie flipped out upon hearing Pitt was dishing about their private life. But as Gossip Cop has repeatedly said, Pitt and Cotillard kept things professional, and did not mix their personal lives into their work. It’s also hard to take Us Weekly seriously when it’s the same outlet that said Pitt and Jolie were adopting a Syrian child back in April.
Gossip Cop has corrected several other untrue stories about Jolie and Pitt’s divorce, and we have no doubt more allegations will crop up over the next few weeks. We’ll continue to debunk as necessary.
