A number of really, really, really wrong rumors spread in 2010. Here are some of the worst to cross Gossip Cop’s desk:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Break Up

No couple endured more tabloid trash than Pitt and Jolie, and no big story about them was as wrong as News of the World’s insistence they’d split. A full 12 months later, we’re still waiting.

David Beckham Cheating with Prostitute

A “$10,000-a-night” hooker named Irma Nici convinced In Touch to print her story about having an affair with the soccer superstar. It was so divorced from reality, Beckham pursued legal action.

Britney Spears Abused by Boyfriend

Star magazine’s heinous cover story alleging that Jason Trawick beat Spears was based on faked “phone calls” between the pop star and her ex-husband Jason Alexander.

Justin Bieber and Kim Kardashian Hooking Up

The rumor pairing the teenage boy and the reality TV personality managed to be picked up all over the place, despite (fortunately) being 100% inaccurate. Bieber’s fans were so incensed by the phony romance, Kardashian received threats.

Demi Lovato Sex Tape

X17Online concocted a totally false story about the Disney starlet recording sex acts while on tour. Given Lovato’s real struggle with other issues this fall, the baseless sex tape talk was especially disturbing.
