Wonder Woman Box Office Second Weekend

(Warner Bros.)

Wonder Woman kicked butt at the box office, while newcomer The Mummy struggled. Get the details, and check out the full Top 10 below!

As Gossip Cop reported, the first big-screen movie focusing on Wonder Woman opened last weekend with Gal Gadot in the title role. With stellar reviews and positive fan feedback, the film gave Patty Jenkins the highest debut ever for a female director. Now in its second weekend, grosses dropped less than fifty percent for a new total of $57.2 million. That’s more than $200 million in just two weekends.

And despite extensive marketing, The Mummy didn’t defeat the superhero flick. Tom Cruise’s reboot of the monster movie franchise debuted in second place with $32.2 million, which was hardly a home run for a project of that size. In fact, it opened lower than all of Universal’s previous Mummy films, which was not the start the studio had hoped for with its new Dark Universe film series. But it wasn’t a total failure either, despite a lot of “dead on arrival” and “dead and buried” jokes. Actually, Cruise notched the best global opening of his entire career, with an international debut of $141.8 million.

As for the rest of the box office, Captain Underpants took the number three spot with $12.3 million. Receipts totaling $10.7 million put Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in fourth. And Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 secured fifth place.

Rounding out the Top 10 were the new horror film It Comes At Night, which opened in sixth with $6 million, followed by seventh place finisher Baywatch, which drowned in the sea of other offerings, and earned just $4.6 million. Nabbing eighth was Megan Leavey, with $3.8 million, while ninth went to Alien: Covenant, with $1.6 million in sales. Just making it into the Top 10 was Everything, Everything. It sold $1.6 million worth of tickets.
