Whoopi Goldberg Renews “The View” Contract For 2016-2017
Whoopi Goldberg is staying on “The View.” The talk show’s moderator announced on Twitter on Monday that she has renewed her contract for another year, confirming a number of Gossip Cop busts about her supposedly leaving.
“Ok NOW it’s official, I have re-upped for 1 year returning to @TheView 4 the 2016/2017 season,” she tweeted. “Will continue 2 annoy some, delight others.” Goldberg delivered the news after the show’s first live broadcast in a week. On the program, she passionately addressed the recent deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and the five Dallas police officers.
Goldberg is the first of the ABC show’s panelists to confirm she’ll be back in the fall. As Gossip Cop reported, it was announced last month that Michelle Collins would be leaving after only one season. While it seems like a safe bet that Joy Behar will stick around, the fates of Candace Cameron Bure, Raven-Symone and others are still up in the air.
But Gossip Cop isn’t surprised that Goldberg will be returning. In May, we exclusively busted a RadarOnline report that falsely claimed her days on “The View” were “numbered.” And before that, in January, we corrected the same site for erroneously saying her contract wasn’t going to be renewed.
And even last fall, we debunked yet another RadarOnline story that inaccurately said ABC was trying to get Goldberg to leave the show. Clearly, Gossip Cop has been right all along, while the webloid has been provably wrong. We now look forward to watching the Oscar winner on TV for another year, and correcting any new rumors that crop up.
