Whitney Houston’s Family Fears “Grave Robbers”?

“Armed guards are protecting Whitney Houston’s grave from bling-hunting robbers,” begins a piece by the Daily Star.

According to the tab, Houston was buried on Sunday in New Jersey with thousands of dollars worth of jewels, and now “the treasure-filled casket has caused alarm among the star’s family and friends.”

“There is a very genuine fear that her coffin will be targeted by grave robbers,” explains a so-called “source.”

The “source” adds that bodyguards have now been hired to keep watch outside her grave.

    It is my understanding that burying someone with expensive items of jewelry, etc. is discouraged. This is to reduce the chances of grave robbing and the incidences of remorse for items buried and the attempted retrieval of such items by family members at a later date.

    I’m not surprised. First – why would someone be buried with $500K worth of jewelery? That is stupid. I thought she was in financial trouble. So why bury bling that could pay her taxes? If they don’t need the money – why not use the stuff to help a lot of needy folks.

    And then why would they announce she was buried in the stuff? That just invites grave robbers. Who is paying for the guards? The citizens of Newark??

    Please stop reading National Enquirer. Who told you she was broke? There has been speculation that she was broke, but later experts stated her net worth, which was 180 million years ago. Once again speculation, but they estimated her net worth at 80 million. Also, the family did not announce she was buried in expensive jewelry, so please don’t make the statement “why would they announce she was buried in the stuff.” Once again National Enquirer, which is a publication I would never buy, made that announcement. Really, do you think her family is talking to the National Enquirer? The citizens of Newark didn’t pay for her funeral, or ship her body from LA, so why would you assume or even think they are paying for guards. People please use a little common sense and quit believing everything you read. If people would watch the right kind of broadcasts about Whitney, they would find out she was an extraordinary person, despite her faults and problems. RIP Whitney

    What a dumpy cemetery to bury someone so famous in. She needs a mausoleum. How ridiculous that anyone in her family thought that they could just bury her in such a public area, and she would be safe. There are alot of sick people in this world. at least a cement monument like the “unknown soldier” over her grave.

    The lady should have been buried in a closed cemetery. Almost anyone with sense would have realised her grave would be a target for grave robbers. If necessary, her father’s remains should have been uplifted and buried in the closed cemetery along with her.
