Stars React To Megyn Kelly’s “White Santa” Comments, Jon Stewart Parodies Segment
FOX News anchor Megyn Kelly stirred up a controversy on her show “The Kelly File” this week when she declared that Jesus and Santa Claus are both white. In response to a Slate op-ed by Aisha Harris titled, “Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore,” Kelly said, “For all you kids watching at home, Santa just is white.”
Kelly went on to tell viewers, “Jesus was a white man, too. He was a historical figure, that is a verifiable fact. As is Santa, I just want the kids watching to know that.” The reporter’s comments didn’t sit well with a lot of people, including celebrities such as Evan Rachel Wood and Chrissy Teigen.
Wood tweeted, “Dude, there is nothing wrong with Jesus. Big Jesus fan over here. But if u say he was white I cant really continue this conversation.” Teigen wrote, “Grown adults fighting about the race of a fictional character. i wish megyn kelly were fictional but she’s real. oh lord, she is real.” “Megyn Kelly to produce all white version of 12 Years a Slave,” quipped Albert Brooks.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert also parodied Kelly’s segment on their respective shows. Stewart wondered, “Who are you actually talking to? Children who are sophisticated enough to be watching a news channel at 10 o’clock at night, yet innocent enough to believe Santa Claus is real, yet racist enough to be freaked out if he isn’t white?” Colbert offered, “A black Santa is a terrible idea. If a homeowner in Florida sees a black man coming down their chimney, he is going to get shot.”
