WENN Will it End? Sites take Robert Pattinson’s “Fight for Attention” joking as fact

Another day, another Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart rumor — but this time a joke taken too far.

Now, in all seriousness, the celebrity site WENN contends Pattinson tried to impress Stewart “by faking a love of highbrow films.”

Using “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke’s recent discussion of multiplex idols Pattinson and Stewart’s oft-speculated romance as a starting point, WENN takes as fact (and seriously) that Pattinson “asked Stewart to marry him several times a week” and had to “fight for her attention” by feigning interest in intellectual books and films.

According to the item, picked up by other outlets, Pattinson says, “I thought to myself, because she’s so serious, I’ve got to be really serious. I felt like an idiot just following her around saying, ‘You really should read some Zola, and there’s this amazing Truffaut movie.’ She started calling me on things. She would ask, ‘Have you actually watched this movie? What’s it about?’”

The problem is, that while Pattinson DID say those things, he was joking, but several media outlets are taking it as if he was serious about asking Stewart to marry him.

Again, let Pattinson and Stewart promote “New Moon,” and if they seriously want to discuss the nature of their relationship, let them — on their owns terms.

    Hey GC,

I rarely refute anything you say, but I believe the Rob quote re KS and his multiple marriage proposals (he did them in jest) actually came from a TV interview, and this stuff is taped somewhere. Is it true that these quotes are being regurgitated left and right, and then are being used grossly out of context, as in this particular WENN article. Absolutely. But I think if someone in the fandom can dig deeply enough, we’ll see that there are at least trace roots of truth.

Sorry I cannot give you more that.

yes, these are true quotes for once but just over a year old. I believe EW last fall? don’t quote me on that but it was around that time. Am so tired of the recycling game, they needed to be called out anyway.

GC is not denying that Rob said these things, they’re calling out WENN for trying to pass them off as serious.

alonelilylanded, GC was not saying that Rob didn’t say these things — they’re commenting on the fact that it was said as a JOKE (just like his “unwashed hair” comment), and these other sites are trying to pass them off as Rob being serious. It’s like all the people who think The Onion’s articles are real. :-)

we all know that rob was kinda joking at that time. and how do you think a guy could court a girl? it’s not like asking for her parents permission or visit her house to formally endorse his intention. it was like a pick up line, geesh. besides, kristen already answered this in one of her interviews that she believes that robs says this to everyone and in all humility stated that she was no special. you are recycling old news gossip cop. their relationship evolves and escalated already. get some new ones you’re being a drag. jmho.

THIS IS AN EDITED POST BY GC. In the original post, there was never any mention of the “joke,” which is why I brought it up. KSPICE75 agreed with me, and GC, upon doing additional research (which GC does so well), amended the post.
