Wendy Williams Wrong About Taylor Swift Again
Wendy Williams is wrong about Taylor Swift. And Gossip Cop doesn’t just mean she’s wrong for her continued attacks on the singer, which she most definitely is. But she’s also factually wrong as well, which makes her uncalled for comments even worse.
On Monday’s episode of “The Wendy Williams Show,” the talk show host ripped Swift for her new relationship with Tom Hiddleston. But she did so in a way that was not just cruel, but also inaccurate. “I suspect he’s also a bit of an opportunist,” Williams said of the actor. “I’m gonna tell you why: First of all, he wants to be the next James Bond and he’s English, and I suspect — because I’ve never heard of this guy before — so how do you drum votes? By getting on Hot Topics!”
So because Williams is unfamiliar with a critically-acclaimed actor, he must be an “opportunist”? The opportunist here is actually the TV personality herself, who is using a real-life romance to create faux-controversy for her television show. And Gossip Cop can assure everyone it is NOT Hiddleston’s goal in life to get on Williams’ “Hot Topics.”
Furthermore, Gossip Cop has already debunked the absurd theory that Hiddleston dating Swift will somehow get him cast as James Bond. Funny, we don’t remember it being said Harry Styles or Jake Gyllenhaal were only dating Swift in order to play 007. But Williams was far from done. From there, she addressed the paparazzi photos of the new couple, declaring, “Taylor probably called them.” And then she went on to distastefully speculate about whether Swift and Hiddleston have slept together, therefore increasing her “number.”
It should go without saying that the slut-shaming is unwarranted, particularly when male celebrities often aren’t treated the same way. But Williams still wasn’t finished. Demonstrating how she doesn’t even know the basic facts on this “hot topic,” the controversial star said, “Calvin [Harris] and Taylor, they go to the Met Ball, but then all of a sudden Tom wants a dance-off… So, they had a dance-off right in front of Calvin.”
Uh, Harris wasn’t at the Met Gala, something Williams easily could have found out if she bothered to do real research. And that Hiddleston WAS there just goes to refute Williams’ earlier point about him being an unknown. People who are invited to the Met Ball are of a prestigious caliber. And tellingly, we don’t recall Williams ever having been a guest.
Williams’ rudeness wasn’t just limited to Swift and Hiddleston, either. She also called Harris “real girly” for allegedly talking about the situation on Instagram. But most disturbingly is that it seems to be a new trend for Williams to go after Swift in inaccurate and hurtful ways.
It was just last month that Williams flat-out lied when talking about Swift’s (non-)connection to the photos of Orlando Bloom and Selena Gomez hanging out. As Gossip Cop reported at the time, she first said of Swift, “But Selena is best friends with Taylor Swift. And Taylor is [a] low-key mean girl, doesn’t want to see anybody get anything.”
Then, after pointing out that Swift and Bloom’s girlfriend Katy Perry are frenemies, Williams announced, “Katy, you need to be looking at your man, and not Selena. Selena was sicced on him by Taylor Swift. Taylor is just a [bitch].” No, Gomez was not “sicced” on Bloom by Swift, and to make such a statement on television as if it were fact without any supporting evidence is just irresponsible.
Gossip Cop doesn’t have a problem with celebrity commentators. But if you’re going to spend over six minutes tearing into someone, at least have accurate, rock-solid arguments to back up to your opinion. Clearly, Williams rather just take down one of the biggest stars with inappropriate comments rooted in fiction. If so inclined, see Williams’ new Swift segment below, beginning at the 11:10 mark.
