WATCH: Justin Bieber Does Surprise Performance At Ariana Grande Concert, Forgets “Love Me Harder” Lyrics (VIDEO)
As Gossip Cop has reported, Grande is in the midst of her “Honeymoon Tour,” which brought her to Florida’s American Airlines Arena, one week after the singer’s sold-out concerts at Madison Square Garden. It was a hometown show for Grande, who was born and raised in South Florida. Perhaps needless to say, but the crowd went absolutely wild when Bieber first appeared on stage to join Grande for her song, “Love Me Harder.” The pair went on to sing Bieber’s “All That Matters” and “As Long As You Love Me,” with Grande nailing boyfriend Big Sean’s rap verse on the latter track.
There was one small hiccup, however, when Bieber forgot the lyrics to “Love Me Harder.” “I feel a little bad, Ariana,” he said after the song ended. “I forgot the words. I’ve been trying to memorize them backstage for like an hour. I feel so bad. I’m so sorry.” Grande pointed out that no one could hear, anyway, with the fans screaming so loud. Bieber later thanked fans for supporting him and “staying by my side through it all.”
Bieber had teased his surprise appearance in the hours before he hit the stage, posting messages on Twitter like, “Big weekend,” “Where am I???” and “What am I up to??? :)” The biggest hint came after Bieber tweeted, “U guys have been asking for this for a while. Get ready,” and a sound check video surfaced that left little doubt that a duet was in the works.
Grande tweeted after the show, “thank u miami babes and thank u @justinbieber!!!!!!.” And Bieber posted, “Thank you @ArianaGrande and thank you Miami. I missed the stage. See u soon ;).” He later added, “Great night. Loved being back on stage. Miami I’m not done yet….” Bieber also acknowledged his lyric mishap on Instagram, writing, “Had fun with u Ariana, even tho I forgot all the words haha.”
Bieber and Grande, of course, share Scooter Braun as their manager, and Grande was the opening act for two of the superstar’s “Believe” tour concerts in 2013. An official collaboration has long been in the works. As Gossip Cop reported, both stars said last May that they were working on a duet. Grande told Ryan Seacrest at the time, “I’m excited about it… Justin wrote it and he brought the idea to me. And I was really excited to hear it and I’m excited to work with him.” She further noted, “I’ve wanted to work with him for a while. And I know it’s something our fans have been begging for for years now.”
Unfortunately, as Gossip Cop reported, Grande revealed a few months later that she and Bieber never completed the recording. “We were working on it. We were in the studio together… We were going to do it, but then we both got busy,” she explained to the Associated Press. “I had to focus on my stuff and he was focusing on his, and it just sort of didn’t really get done.”
Grande went on to note, “We feel like we owe it to our fans to do something one day. We will finish it and put it out one day, but it just wasn’t the right time.” Well, it was the right time on Saturday to at least do a 3-song performance together that will surely have fans yearning for more.
