Miley Cyrus’ Wonderful VMAs Charity Moment Made Possible Because She Was Tipped About Win Well Before Show
During her red carpet appearance, Miley Cyrus inadvertently and indirectly revealed that at least some of the MTV Video Music Awards winners were notified that they’d won before the show started.
When Lucy Hale asked Cyrus how she’d be able to top last year’s infamous VMAs performance, the pop star hinted that she had something “really special” planned for the show.
She reiterated the point while appearing alongside Jesse, a young homeless man, and talking to her sister Brandi about what she and he had in store for the show (see video below).
Of course, Cyrus’ big moment, which was wonderful, involved allowing Jesse to accept her Video of the Year award for “Wrecking Ball.” But for Jesse to take the stage and give his amazing speech… Cyrus had to know ahead of time that she’d won the category.
Earlier this month, fans flipped out when it became apparent the Teen Choice Awards were rigged.
During the TCAs, some of the participants expressed disgust with the process online, leading to fan anger over a voting process that ultimately meant very little.
There was no Twitter outrage this time around, and for the VMAs, it’s not clear how many of the night’s award recipients knew what was going to happen ahead of the broadcast.
Most important, of course, is that Cyrus used her victory as a way of drawing attention to an important issue and giving millions of fans the opportunity to donate to My Friend’s Place, a Los Angeles center that helps homeless youths.
Gossip Cop has already donated to the cause, and we encourage everyone to to go to Prizeo.com and think about doing the same.
