Virgil Gadson And Hailee Payne “So You Think You Can Dance” Video: Futuristic Robot Routine Gets Standing Ovation
Virgil Gadson and Hailee Payne received a standing ovation on “So You Think You Can Dance” on Monday for a futuristic routine in which they portrayed robots. Check out the video below!
As explained by the choreographers, Gadson and Payne were to act as “robots from outer space,” tasked with finding the right balance of “character and precision.” The innovation was incredible, leading all three judges to their feet at the end, marking the panel’s only standing ovation of the night. Nigel Lythgoe then gave one of the strongest compliments not just of the evening, but in show history.
“I think in 20 years time, when they do ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ 20th anniversary, this routine will be on there,” said the veteran judge. He further noted of Team Street’s Gadson and Team Stage’s Payne, “These two are the best two characters we got this year on this show. Their personalities shine out… In truth, that was a really memorable routine.”
Paul Abdul amusingly quipped, “If you represent what aliens are, sign me up. I’ll come.” And Jason Derulo told Gadson, “Virgil, I always knew you was crazy, but I didn’t know you were that crazy.” The cherry on top? After all the praise, both dancers found out they were save for another week. And with votes for tonight’s performance, there’s a great chance they’ll be safe again next week, too.
