Viola Davis Critics’ Choice Awards Video: Watch Amy Adams Present “See Her” Award
Viola Davis was honored by Amy Adams with the See Her Award at the 2016 Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday. Check out the video below!
Adams, who co-starred with Davis in Doubt, explained Davis would be the inaugural recipient of this new award, which highlights actresses that are redefining the portrayal of women in media. With her leading role on “How To Get Away With Murder,” her historic Emmy win last year, and the upcoming film adaptation of Fences, Davis was praised for showing authenticity and breaking ground. As Adams said, “Viola believes you don’t live someone else’s life, someone else’s idea of womanhood. You live what’s inside you.”
Adams went on to note that although she worked with Davis in just one scene of Doubt, it was enough for her to garner an Oscar nomination. Davis then took the stage to a standing ovation, which appeared to be led by her The Help co-star Emma Stone. Davis also appeared to have tears in her eyes.
Davis began her speech by joking, “It’s hard to accept being a role model for women when you’re trying to lose weight.” The actress more seriously revealed, “I truly believe the privilege of a lifetime is being who you are, and I just recently embraced that at the age of 51.” She later added, “I do see her, just like I see me.”
Shortly after, Davis won Best Supporting Actress for Fences. Watch the full See Her Award video below!
