Madonna was in charge of this year’s Super Bowl halftime show – and she brought along some friends.

LMFAO, Nicki Minaj, M.I.A. and Cee Lo Green assisted the Material Girl at various points of the 12-minute performance, which began with her entering like Cleopatra and singing “Vogue.”

After that, Madonna transitioned into “Music,” during which LMFAO came out to sing snippets from their hits.

Then it was time for collaborators Minaj and M.I.A. to help out on “Give Me All Your Luvin,’” the video for which just premiered this past week.

A marching band led by Green joined the festivities, tossing in a few words from “Express Yourself.”

Madonna closed with “Like A Prayer” and a choir.

Very great performance. Is she lipsyncing though? Some vocal effects can be noticed and sometimes doesn’t she sing lower than usual live? I’m not sure, but Nicki and M.I.A. definitely lipsynced.

Personally, I think this was the most boring halftime show in a really long time. Madonna barely moved an when she did, it looked as if she was going to stumble over. I think it’s time the NFL stop being afraid because of the Janet incident and start booking acts like they use to.

No, it’s not the timing, she did it well and on-time, but it’s just obvious because you can hear all the vocal effects and such. She can sing live, she’s done it before, maybe it was just because it was the Super Bowl and had to be perfect.

Awful-quality video but I don’t think her performance was *that* bad. The new song was atrocious but “Like A Prayer” delivered. “Vogue” and the segue into “Music” was giving me flashbacks of Britney Spears’ tour last summer- a whole bunch of weirdness that didn’t make sense together- similar theme too- but you feel bad because you want to respect the contributions Madonna has made to music. I could have settled for just “Like A Prayer” though.

For the Super Bowl, the pop artists always have vocals that were recorded live as their backing track. While she actually sang on the track (with some help of mixing too), she was lipsynching to the track she previously recorded for this performance.

Even Madonna fans are admitting she lip synched. She’s done it for 20 years. I’m with John Mellencamp. Canned performances are bull. I was dissapointed that she lip-synced the whole damn show. Seems the dancing pop-stars have a habit of doing that. You won’t see the rolling stones lip-sync one of their tracks.

I don’t condone lip-synching, but she IS 53; give her a break. True, she’s done it her whole career (which I also don’t condone,) but that doesn’t give you a basis to call her fans dumb and tasteless. When she does sing, she CAN sing which is more than what half the artists out there today can say for themselves. At least she has a voice. If you don’t believe me, watch the movie Evita. I’m young, and I’m not a huge Madonna fan, but I do think she has a beautiful voice and some catchy songs. You can think whatever you want of me, but I’m far from tasteless when it comes to music. I probably listen to a far greater range than you do, and I’m only 19.

I’m not a Madonna fan but I thought it was spectacular. Beautifully produced, well executed, tons of cool effects. She might have been a little stiff but she had a torn hamstring and was wearing 4-5 inch heels, I’d be moving carefully under those circumstances too. Everyone I watched it with last night thought it was one of the best half time shows ever.

Ok, I will weigh in because I was curious about this. First of all, Madonna in her prime could not compete musicallly with ZZ Top, The Eagles, Led Zepplin, or any other rock band because her music is what we call ‘copy-exact’ modify synthesis. Basically, she has a common tone in virtually all of her tones and she lacks unquiness (if you do not get this, listen to Kashmir and Stairway to heaven back to back and you will see the variety – then listen to a couple of Beyonce’ songs and you should understand immediately the point). Madonna is not a great singer/songwriter – I think most people know this – those who do not have not really listened to great rock and roll music – may be an age thing. Anyway, she is an entertainer. She does this because if you just listened to her music and she did not have all of the visual distractions – like Lady whatshername – you would probably tune her out. For 53, I personally think she looks good. I for one, enjoy real musicians like tom petty – The Who (or the What) was way out of their prime when they played and sucked – in their prime, they were a sight to behold. It is too bad we have to resort today to so much visual entertainment to cover up what is really average to poor musical talent.

I think the majority of people that complain about Madonna’s halftime show do so simply because they don’t like HER. So, in other words she wouldn’t have a fighting chance at all to put a great show on in their eyes. I for one, thought it was excellent. I know she had a pulled hamstring which was causing her a lot of pain and discomfort, but seriously.. 53 years old or not, I think she did awesome. Besides, she’s physically in better condition than probably 99% of most women her age anyways. Best halftime show I’ve ever seen, period. I think the haters complain due to her age or the fact that she’s a female. It truly says more about society than it does about the Material girl, wouldn’t you say? I suppose some people think that women should retire at 40.What do people want? To shoot her out of a canon for it to be good? LOL. Come on. I don’t think the woman needs to prove anything to anybody. Not anymore anyways. Didn’t she break her own record a couple years back for the highest grossing solo touring artist ever? I don’t know, I just think credit is due where it’s deserved, and I think Madonna absolutely deserves it. Plus, I understand that the superbowl was the most watched television program ever in history and that the Madonna show had an additional few million watching… so I suppose her performance was the most watched moment ever in TV history. Not too bad I might say. The numbers don’t lie.
