Jennifer Hudson’s Moving Grammys Tribute to Whitney Houston (VIDEO)

VIDEO

(CBS)

Jennifer Hudson was given the difficult task of honoring Whitney Houston at the Grammys just 24 hours after the iconic singer’s shocking death.

Her moment came after the annual “In Memorium” montage, which ended on a clip of Houston and led directly into Hudson’s performance of “I Will Always Love You.”

Hudson changed the last line to, “Whitney, we love… we love you.”

Actually I was very disappointed in Jennifers rendition. She tries to inject way to much ahh gospel int to her voice. Whitney was so smooth . I am surprised they picked her. They could have used Melanie Amaro who will be as good as Whitney

  • Guest

Melanie Amaro probably learned how to sing in a gospel choir at church, so I don’t really think we could be sure that she wouldn’t have sung the same way Jennifer did. I do agree though, that the song should have been sung in a style much more true to how Whitney sung it. I felt that Jennifer played around with it a little and considering it was meant to be a homage to Whitney I thought it could have been a little truer to its original version.

  • Insatnlf

She did alright, I mean, seriously, people, there is no one who can sing it as smoothly and powerfully as Whitney.

i noticed that she tried to make it sound and more close to whitney’s version but she can’t help it. she was in a verge of crying. besides she only had 24 hours. nobody can top or came close the way whitney sang it, nobody. thank you jennifer.

She is one the few singers left who could come close to singing this Athem. Maria would have done a good job also, but she does not have the deep tonal range that jennifer or whitney had to embed the deep temporal “soul” into the lyrics. First of all….NO ONE Can sing it like Dolly…. it’s not Whitney’s song… her rendition of Dolly’s song was hers.. and Jennifer did and excellent job of doing it her way.. it’s a tribute not karoke! how about you get up there and do it! NOT as I thought! Just as Jennifer rocked Jennifer Holidays song she killed it!!! You are not the person so you can only sing something how your going to sing it… most people dont try to imitate another vocalist.. do you watch AMerican Idol.. they clearly and always say.. make a song your own!!! She is and never will be Whitney…a TRIBUTE people…OMG… are you serious…..people are always so critical about something they are not able to do themselves….shut up!!!! and enjoy all that’s positive about what’s brought to remembering Whitney.. good grief… get a life….

Jennifer has had her share of loss and I expect that it came through.

Wow! I’ve always felt Houston’s version was unconsciously funny (the video never failed to make me giggle) but Ms. Hudson’s performance was beautiful and touching–and her own.

  • Sharon

You seem to be a bit critical of others yourself.

Jennifer Hudson is undoubdetly talented. But, she looks strange, because her attitude changed. She thinks she is so “hot” now that she is thin. I am willing to bet, in a few years or less, she will be fatter than what she used to be and her appearance and that stupid attitude, she adopted, will hurt her.
