Vanessa Hudgens To Star In Gigi On Broadway
Vanessa Hudgens is coming to Broadway!
The High School Musical actress will headline a new production of Gigi, scheduled to debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. in January before transitioning to New York.
Gigi is set in Paris at the turn of the last century and tells the story of a young woman who unexpectedly falls in love with the playboy for whom she was groomed to be a companion.
It was an Audrey Hepburn-starring play in 1951 before being turned into a movie musical and then a stage production in 1973.
“Thank Heaven For Little Girls” and “I Remember It Well” are among its memorable songs.
Hudgens is thrilled to be doing the project.
She tells the Associated Press, “I think, as an actor, the ultimate dream is to be on Broadway. I think it’s the true test. There are no second takes. You’ve got to bring everything you’ve got for the most critical of audiences. It’s an honor, if anything. I’m over the moon.”
“I’ve never been so ecstatic about a project before,” says Hudgens. “I genuinely feel like a child, beaming from ear-to-ear, being taken to Disneyland for the first time. It’s something that I actually feel I was born to do.”
The show will run at the Kennedy Center from January 16 through February 12, 2015.
New York dates and additional cast will be announced soon.
