Vanessa Hudgens Dad Dies Of Cancer, Dedicating “Grease: Live” Performance In His Honor
Vanessa Hudgens’s father died of cancer on Saturday night, but the actress says she is still going to performing on FOX’s “Grease: Live” on Sunday. Earlier, she tweeted, “I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer. Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.” Hudgens’ dad was 65.
The actress, who is set to star as Rizzo opposite Julianne Hough and Aaron Tveit in Sunday’s live production of “Grease” on FOX, followed up that heartbreaking tweet with another that read, “Tonight, I do the show in his honor.” After those messages, Hudgens then sent out a couple of more tweets promoting the stage production, including one that said, “TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT!!!!!! YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS! Tune in 7/6c on FOX #GreaseLive @gogrease.”
Following the news of Hudgens’s father’s death, scores of fans reached out to offer their condolences. A number of celebrities as well expressed their sympathies to Hudgens on Twitter. Jesse Tyler Ferguson wrote, “Thoughts & prayers go to @VanessaHudgens. So sorry for her loss & inspired that she will perform tonight’s @GoGrease in her fathers honor.” And “Access Hollywood” host Billy Bush tweeted, “Wishing great strength to @vanessaHudgens who lost her dad last night as she goes live in #GREASEISTHEWORD. How difficult that must be.”
