Up in arms over Britney Spears Down Under

The Australian leg of the Britney Spears Circus tour literally just began in Perth, and already there’s major controversy Down Under, where she’s on stage right now.

After reports emerged that Spears lip synchs portions of her performance, an Aussie official suggested that tickets should include a disclaimer noting that parts of the concert are pre-recorded.

The Australian minister, Virginia Judge, who referenced Spears’ professional beginnings, told a newspaper that people would not tolerate a “Mickey Mouse performance.” She said, “Let’s be clear — live means live,” and added, “If you are spending up to 200 dollars [$182 U.S.] I think you deserve better than a film clip.”

With some of Spears’ tickets going for as much as $1,400 U.S., government officials there are now mulling whether performers need to disclose on tickets and posters if parts of their concerts are pre-recorded.

Yes, it would be nice to be forewarned that she is lip synching, but don’t we all already know and expect that from her? From the online clips I’ve seen, the show is a huge production (probably to make up for her less-than-par lip synching), so you are paying to be entertained by the whole show, not her stellar singing abilities…

Thanks for your comment, AManfred. And yes, that’s definitely an argument — that this is really a big production and you’re paying for an extravaganza, if you will. Nevertheless, it’s interesting that a country would like to have it printed on tickets and posters that not everything an audience member is seeing is live. I’m sure it will spark more conversation and debate. Again thanks, and spread the word about Gossip Cop!

Agree… They should say something… I know: one thing is a video, and other the live concert… I find they are very different ways for a song to be diffused… and so the concert is a show you can only see live, but say: Hey she’s not singing all the way… it’s called being polite… and ppl wouldn’t get mad… I think…

And if still synching, I think as an artist Britney should put a bit more effort into it… it’s what is about… actually DO the show… The Show Must Go On, like Queen said… ;)

    Thanks GC! :D
