“UnREAL” Cast Talks “The Bachelorette” On “GMA” (VIDEO)
The cast of “UnREAL” appeared on Tuesday’s “Good Morning America,” and discussed (what else?) similarities to “The Bachelorette” franchise. Watch below!
“UnREAL,” of course, was inspired by “The Bachelor.” The critically-acclaimed Lifetime series follows the behind-the-scenes happenings of a “Bachelor”-like show, showing just how much fiction goes into the reality program. The second season just premiered, coinciding with JoJo Fletcher’s season of “The Bachelorette.” Asked how similar the two are, star Shiri Appleby said, “We’re heard from contestants on the show that it should actually be called ‘Real.'”
“They feel like it’s a very honest depiction of what it’s like on those reality shows,” she continued. Co-star Constance Zimmer noted, “One of our creators used to work on that show, ‘The Bachelor,’ for nine seasons. Our show is a scripted drama, slightly based in reality.”
Appleby’s character often pushes the contestants to do crazy things to win the affections of the bachelor. And she argued during the “GMA” chat, “I think most of that kind of stuff happens [in real life]. It’s a tremendous amount of manipulation going on behind-the-scenes.” The actress went on to share tales of contestants being given onions to force them to cry, or being kept “for hours on end” to “get the story” that was wanted.
But that’s not all the cast revealed. Check out the full interview below!
