Underworld: Awakening Wins Weekend Box Office

BOX OFFICEKate Beckinsale’s vampire-action sequel Underworld: Awakening won the weekend box office with a take of $25.4 million.
Coming in second was new release, Red Tails, with a $19.1 million haul.
Nabbing third was the Mark Wahlberg flick Contraband, with $12.2 million in ticket sales.
The post-9/11 drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close and Gina Carano’s starring debut, Haywire, took fourth and fifth places with $10.5 million and $9 million, respectively.
Rounding out the Top 10 were Beauty and the Beast 3D ($8.3 million), Joyful Noise ($6.1 million), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol ($5.5 million), Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows ($4.8 million) and The Iron Lady ($3.7 million).
