As Gossip Cop reported, U2 was in Paris this week in advance of a scheduled concert at Accor Hotels Arena. The show was slated to take place on Saturday, and be filmed for television. HBO planned to air the special in the U.S. on Saturday night.

At the time of the terrorist attacks, Bono was just minutes away from the carnage, rehearsing for the concert. Thankfully, he, the rest of the band, and their crew were able to get to secure locations and were unharmed in the tragedy. In the aftermath, however, it was announced that Saturday’s concert was canceled.

U2 said in a statement, “We watched in disbelief and shock at the unfolding events in Paris and our hearts go out to all the victims and their families across the city tonight. We are devastated at the loss of life at the Eagles of Death Metal concert and our thoughts and prayers are with the band and their fans. And we hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe.”

As night fell Saturday, during the time they would have been gearing up for the show, Bono and his band mates instead gathered at a memorial near Bataclan Theatre, where approximately 100 people were killed. Surrounding them were dozens of people keeping vigil.

The Deftones were slated to have their own series of concerts at Bataclan beginning Monday, but the shows have since been canceled. Foo Fighters has also called off its Paris concert, which was also to be held Monday, as well as the rest of its European tour dates. Eagles of Death Metal are also reportedly canceling its remaining concert stops and returning to the U.S. The photos of Bono and U2 at the memorial can be seen below.
