‘Twilight’ High School Facade in Forks to be Destroyed

Truth rating: 10

The brick facade of Quillayute Valley High School in Forks, Washington — the real-life version of the high school in Twilight — is about to disappear.

School officials had hoped to integrate the original building’s main doorway and front into the new campus set to replace the leaky, recently demolished school.

The tentative plan would have used the facade as a stand-alone entrance to the new building.

But in the construction proposal accepted on Friday, it was revealed that saving the facade would cost $271,000.

It will be destroyed.

“We would have considered a lower bid, but that’s over a quarter of a million dollars, and we can’t afford it,” said school board president Bill Rohde.

What had been for locals a beloved place of learning that dates from the 1920s became in recent years a tourist destination for Twilight fans who wanted to photograph the place where Bella Swan and Edward Cullen (played by Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in the movies) first meet.

That was true, earlier in the day. The Peninsula Daily News now reports that “School officials still hope that something can be done to save the facade at Forks High School as a freestanding monument on the redeveloped campus. According to the conditional use permit granted to the Quillayute Valley School District by the city last summer, the district must hold a public hearing and give the community 45 days in which to find alternate funding to pay for reinforcing the brick facade.” A date has yet to be set for the public hearing. Let’s hope a funding source arises in the meantime.

Ok, totally honest, I thought you were joking, like a prank, with that tittle… but no… indeed, it’s about a wall being destructed…

I know, said wall is important to fans of the series, and all… I understand and definitely respect that… Your life, believe, like, and do what you wish… but jeez… Has it gotten to that point?… Willing to preserve real-3D things, because they got to be used for a movie, based on a fictional story…?…
I prefer to invest in preserving monuments that actually have some bigger impact in society, by representing real-life history and not just stories… If so, then, someone explain to me, where is Juliet’s balcony, or the Titanic (which was in fact real, hence important) James Cameron used…

Maybe someone should take all Twilight stuff and put them in a museum or something, so it be contained to one place, and fans will be able to watch it all whenever they want… Like the Ferrari museum (Awesome), or Elvis, or any of that…

    JMHO… :)

    Thanks GC… :)
(Seriously?… a wall being destructed is worth the words?… jmho)

To make up the money to save this building/facade… do like they did for the Berlin wall, sell pieces of it! As many “Twilight” fans as there is out here, we could get the $300,000 in no time at all! We’d all love to have a piece of the Twilight HISTORY! eBay here we come.

They didn’t even actually film there! The high school scenes in Twilight were filmed at Kalama Middle High School in Kalama OR. this building was only mentioned in the book.

And, although I am a big Twilight fan, I have to say that they should do what is best for the school. The students are far more important than the tourists. And there are plenty of other locations in Forks that still exist.
