True Detective Finale Crashes HBO Go

“True Detective” aired its highly-anticipated season finale on Sunday — but not all viewers were able to watch it when they wanted to.
HBO’s HBO Go streaming service unexpectedly crashed because of the high volume of people trying to watch online.
A rep for the cable network tweeted during the downtime, “Due to overwhelmingly popular demand for #TrueDetective, we’ve been made aware of an issue affecting some users. Please try again soon.”
Unfortunately, trying again soon only continued to overload the platform for several hours.
The network said in a statement on Monday, “Due to overwhelming interest in the season finale of ‘True Detective,’ HBO GO was hit with an excessive amount of traffic soon after 9 p.m. ET last night. The issue has since been rectified and the service is now back to normal.”
