Tracy Morgan Emmys Video: Watch Emotional Return After Accident At Emmy Awards
Tracy Morgan made his first big return to the spotlight at Sunday’s 2015 Emmy Awards, and it was every bit as unexpected as it was moving and amazing. Watch below.
With just minutes left in the 67th annual Emmys ceremony, host Andy Samberg, who was also Morgan’s “SNL” colleague, announced, “To present our final award of the evening, please welcome back to the stage for the first time in over a year, our good friend, Tracy Morgan.” Morgan received an extended standing ovation as he slowly walked on to the stage in a burgundy suit. Several of Morgan’s “SNL” and “30 Rock” coo-stars were looking on in the audience.
“Thank you. Thank you so much,” Morgan began. “I miss you guys so much. Last year Jimmy Kimmel sat on this stage and said, ‘Next year we’ll see you back here, Tracy Morgan.’ Well, Jimmy, thanks to my amazing doctors and the support of my beautiful new wife, I’m here, standing on my own two feet. And god bless all of you for your love, your prayers, and your positive thoughts over the past 15 months. Thank you.”
Morgan continued, “I’m honored to be here at the Emmys. I’m happy and honored to be here. It’s been a long road back. I suffered a traumatic brain injury that put me in a coma for eight days. When I finally regained consciousness, I was ecstatic to learn that I wasn’t the one who messed up.”
“Only recently I’ve started to feel like myself again, which means a whole lot of you women are gonna get pregnant at the after party,” joked Morgan, sparking laughs and cheers. “It’s going down.” With that, Morgan gave the nominees for Best Drama.
As Gossip Cop reported, Morgan was severely injured in June 2014 when a Walmart truck driver crashed into his tour bus. Several passengers were hospitalized along with Morgan, and his friend, comedian James McNair, was killed. Morgan has had to re-learn how to walk and get back other motor skills, and made a brief television return on “Today” in June.
He will make a bigger comeback when he hosts “SNL” next month. Check out the full video of Morgan at the Emmys below.
