Tracee Ellis Ross says she was NOT throwing “shade” at Tyga during Sunday’s BET Awards when she laughed as she introduced him and Chris Brown before their performance of the song “Ayo.” The actress shot down the rumors on Monday, tweeting, “NO SHADE @Tyga #BETAwards.”

Rumors first started circulating when Ross, who was co-hosting with her “Black-ish” costar Anthony Anderson, started to laugh as she introduced Tyga and Brown as a “Triple threat… Young, sexy and black.” After looking off to the side and laughing, Ross continued, “Please welcome Tyga and Chris Brown.”

Even though many people wrongly assumed Ross was throwing “shade” at Tyga, the actress blamed the mishap on nerves and not being able to properly say Tyga’s name. Referring to her rap alter ego “TMurda,” Ross added on Twitter, “Absolutely not throwing shade @Tyga (I’m not the shade throwing type) as u might remember from my TMurda ‘further exploration’ video I have trouble saying his name right & I was nervous. I was hosting a live show. I was fighting in my head cause I was so scared I would say it the wrong way. That would have been awful. Saw him as he came off stage and there was nothing but love. You rock Tyga.”
