UPDATE – 6/20/10 – 9:15 AM -

UPDATE – 6/19/10 – 12:00 PM -

Toy Story 3 is on pace to smash the record for a Pixar animation opening.

The sequel could take in up to $120 million this weekend after a $41 million Friday. The Incredibles and Finding Nemo both topped $70 million upon release.

All 11 Pixar movies have debuted in the #1 spot.

The Karate Kid earned $8.9 million on Friday and tracks to a $30 million second-place weekend after opening at #1 last week.

Holdovers The A-Team and Get Him To The Greek look to finish at #3 and #4.

Jonah Hex flopped. The new western pulled in under $2 million on Friday and might finish the weekend with about $6 million.

ORIGINAL POST – 5:46 AM -

Americans still love Woody and Buzz.

Toy Story 3 is estimated to trample the competition at the box office this weekend, with Pixar’s impeccable reputation, strong reviews, high 3D ticket prices and nostalgia for the franchise leading to a haul currently predicted at $118 million.

The weekend’s other big new release, the Josh Brolin and Megan Fox comic book Western adaptation Jonah Hex, is bombing. It currently tracks to approximately $9 million for its first three days.

Holdovers from last week include a still-strong reboot of The Karate Kid and a less-than-strong The A-Team. In other news, Iron Man 2 has passed the $300 million threshold.

Gossip Cop will have updated numbers later this weekend.

The good thing about going to see Toy Story 3 is that you don’t feel odd being a grown up seeing a movie for kids, because there are other people in the same situation as yours!… :D
It’s so funny when, even after explaining and watching the first and second movies with the kids you are dragging to the cinema with you, you are much more excited than them of seeing Woody and Buzz (hilarious!)… and the dinosaur, and potato… Ahhhhhh!…
    I’m still a kid, who do I want to trick?… :P

    Thanks GC… :D
